Jessica Simpson<\/strong> <\/a>is a proud body-positive advocate<\/a>, which she\u2019s trying to instill in her three children.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy kids have seen me [still] being scrutinized and it\u2019s very confusing to them because they\u2019re like, \u2018Well I don\u2019t even understand this, why don\u2019t they just say you look pretty, Mom? You look pretty,\u2019\u201d Simpson, 43, said of daughters Maxwell, 11, and Birdie, 4, and son Ace, 10,<\/a> during a Friday, August 25, interview with\u00a0Access Hollywood<\/a>.\u00a0<\/i>\u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018Honey, I wish I could explain it.\u2019 I wish I could say, \u2018For me, it has gotten better but it still remains the same and I don\u2019t know why but it\u2019s OK.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cI have been every size [and] I do understand every body, every woman, their mentality and how deserving they are of fashion and style and it\u2019s just such a natural thing for me so I have to like I tell my kids how you feel about yourself is how you should feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simpson explained to the outlet that she aims to teach her and husband Eric Johnson<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s kids that \u201cyou don\u2019t dress for anybody else\u201d and that \u201cyou don\u2019t try to look like anybody else.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTruly you don\u2019t need to be anybody [else\u2019s] size,\u201d the Jessica Simpson Collection designer<\/a> told the outlet. \u201cMaxwell is the tallest in her grade and she\u2019s like, \u2018Should I be insecure?\u2019 I\u2019m, like, the fact that you\u2019re asking me if you should be insecure means absolutely not. You\u2019re comfortable, you stay comfortable<\/a>, you be you and I think that more than weight that people have focused on we need to focus on our mentality about even talking about weight. I think it just doesn\u2019t need to be a conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Simpson has since slimmed down after years of struggling with her weight<\/a>, she hasn\u2019t seen it as a journey to shed pounds.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t really look at it as\u00a0a\u00a0weight loss journey. I think it\u2019s\u00a0a journey of empowerment and self-love\u00a0and acceptance,\u201d she exclusively told\u00a0Us Weekly<\/i>\u00a0in April 2022<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s one of those things\u00a0[where]\u00a0it\u2019s, like, we all want what we can\u2019t have. We all want the body type that we aren\u2019t [and] that we can\u2019t change. So it\u2019s about accepting and loving ourselves for who we are.\u201d<\/p>\n

Simpson further praised the importance of \u201csetting small goals\u201d<\/a> to eventually see big rewards. \u201cWhen you work really hard to look and feel the way that you do in a very happy moment, especially with your children, it is very empowering and it made me so emotional,\u201d she told\u00a0Us.\u00a0<\/i>\u201cI was really proud. I was like, \u2018Here I go, I\u2019m doing it.\u2019 \u2026 My babies are worth the weight gain.\u201d<\/p>\n
