As Aubrey Plaza<\/strong><\/a> hosted Saturday Night Live<\/i><\/a>\u00a0<\/i>for the first time,\u00a0<\/i>she had a VIP guest help show her the ropes: Amy Poehler<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cOn every tour people would ask the same question, \u2018Are we going to see a celebrity?\u2019\u201d Plaza, 38, quipped<\/a> on Saturday, January 21, while recalling her memories in the NBC Page program, where she would show tourists around the network building. \u201cNo, you\u2019re going to see an old security guy eating a sandwich or a writer crying because a sketch got cut.\u2019 Famous people don\u2019t just \u2014!\u201d<\/p>\n As the\u00a0Little Hours\u00a0<\/i>actress walked through the 30 Rock set \u2014 in a Page blazer \u2014 she nearly ran into Poehler, 51. \u201cHi, Aubrey,\u201d the\u00a0Baby Mama\u00a0<\/i>actress exclaimed, giving her former Parks and Recreation<\/a><\/i>\u00a0<\/i>costar a hug. \u201cOh my God, look at you!\u201d<\/p>\n Poehler added: \u201cSo, Aubrey, I see that you\u2019re wearing your Page jacket. Plaza once bombed an early audition to join the cast<\/a> of ensemble players.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t make it to the\u00a0Lorne [Michaels]<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>audition, the famous final audition, but I did a preliminary first-round showcase,\u201d the Delaware native recalled during a Tuesday, January 17, appearance on\u00a0The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon<\/a>.\u00a0<\/i>\u201cI remember one character I did was like a Puerto Rican news reporter that was always trying to make all of the news stories sexy, even if they were horrific news stories. I was just trying to like, sex up the news or something.\u201d<\/p>\n Plaza also hoped her \u201cpill-popping housewife\u201d character would be a hit with the show executives \u2014 to no avail. While neither of the\u00a0Ingrid Goes West\u00a0<\/i>star\u2019s characters propelled her enough to land a coveted cast member gig<\/a>, she did earn an internship in the design department in 2004.<\/p>\n \u201cThey loved me because I did not care about set design at all, and they wanted an intern that had no interest in learning what they did,\u201d she recalled to Jimmy Fallon<\/strong><\/a> on Tuesday, noting she frequently spent her time \u201clurking in the shadows\u201d<\/a> around the cast. \u201cI was just, like, creepy. Like, I was a creepy stalker. Now I\u2019m gonna host it, so my master plan worked!\u201d<\/p>\n While the Emily the Criminal <\/i>star\u00a0\u2014 who quietly married Jeff Baena<\/strong> in May 2021<\/a> \u2014 may not have gotten to join\u00a0SNL\u00a0<\/i>as a cast member, she eventually landed the role of April <\/a>on Parks and Rec, <\/i>which aired on NBC. <\/i>The show ultimately wrapped in 2015, and the actress went on to book a steady stream of comedic film<\/a>s.\u00a0She later returned to TV last year, landing the role of Harper on HBO Max\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>The White Lotus<\/a>.<\/i><\/p>\n \u201cIt was incredible. We were shooting in Sicily for four months, living in a luxury hotel and staying in this gorgeous town<\/a>,\u201d Plaza gushed to\u00a0Deadline<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>in November 2022 of joining Mike White<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s anthology series. \u201cYou walk outside and look at the ocean from these cliffs. It\u2019s breathtaking. And you\u2019ve got the backdrop of Mt. Etna volcano that can erupt at any second.
