(TLC)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nJust a couple of weeks ago, 90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days<\/em> reached a season high.<\/p>\nSeason 6, Episode 11 of the 90 Day Fiance<\/em> spinoff scored a 1.23 L3 rating among adults aged 25-54. That was on Sunday, August 13.<\/p>\nThis was the episode when Cleo confronted Christian for lying. It was also the episode where Razvan took Amanda to \u201cDracula\u2019s\u201d Castle Bran.<\/p>\nCastle Bran is now a tourist attraction for visitors to Romania. (TLC)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nAccording to TLC, Episode 11 was the number one cable program of the night for Adults 25-54 and for Women 18-49\/18-34.<\/p>\n
And the success didn\u2019t stop there. Because 90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days<\/em> is something of a package deal.<\/p>\nLater in the night, the accompanying Pillow Talk<\/em> episode was the top cable telecast in its time slot for Adults and Women 25-54 and for Women 18-49.<\/p>\nMeisha and Nicola\u2019s first (and, according to him, last) fishing trip could have gone better. This season also has a lot of heart <\/em>\u2014 something that not every iteration of this franchise remembers to include.<\/p>\nCleo and Christian could have heard happier news. Thankfully, it came from an astrologer, so they can make of it whatever they like. (TLC)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nLet\u2019s start with Cleo and Christian. Christian is a self-described \u201clife of the party\u201d from America. Cleo, an Italian model, is living in London.<\/p>\n
Cleo is transgender. She is also autistic. At times, fans have wondered if Christian can accept her as she is.<\/p>\n
And, frankly, fans have wondered if these two are right for each other. Sometimes, people just don\u2019t mesh.<\/p>\nStatler and Dempsey seem like total opposites. But they are clearly crazy about each other. (TLC)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nSpeaking of which, Statler and Dempsey come from totally different worlds.<\/p>\n
Statler is a city girl. Dempsey loves living in the middle of nowhere. Statler\u2019s from Texas and hates the cold. Dempsey spends a lot of time on the chilly English countryside.<\/p>\n
Oh, and Statler thinks that waiting to move in after 7 months of online talking \u201cdoesn\u2019t make any sense.\u201d To Dempsey, that would be \u201crushing.\u201d They\u2019re so different \u2014 but clearly love each other.<\/p>\nWatching David bond with Sheila\u2019s son, Jhonreil, has been adorable. (TLC)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nOne of the most heartwarming and low-conflict storylines this season has been David and Sheila\u2019s love story.<\/p>\n
David is deaf. He\u2019s a likeable guy, and he and Sheila met because she\u2019s hard of hearing and expects to lose her hearing over time.<\/p>\n
No one could have foreseen the tragedy of her mother dying just hours after David met her. Her life of extreme poverty has exacted a terrible price upon her family.<\/p>\nChristian and Cleo have had fans going back and forth, but most wonder if the impulsive party boy and the cautious autistic woman are a good match. (TLC)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThat has viewers invested. And so does the question of Cleo and Christian.<\/p>\n
We won\u2019t pretend that they\u2019re universally adored. Even though Gabriel Paboga was the franchise\u2019s first trans cast member, more vicious bigots have targeted Cleo online. (They both got hate, but she\u2019s getting more)<\/p>\n
That\u2019s not a surprise. 90 Day Fiance<\/em> has an infamously misogynistic aspect of its fanbase. So Cleo was at a disadvantage from day one because she\u2019s a woman. The fact that she\u2019s trans made her a target for bigots.<\/p>\nStatler and Riley are accustomed to very different lifestyles. (TLC)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nBut both the positive and negative responses (even the unhinged ones, from hate speech to people who somehow think that Sheila is using David for money that he doesn\u2019t have) fuel ratings.<\/p>\n
It all drives TLC and the franchise forward. <\/p>\n
Sometimes, that\u2019s not a good thing. Just look at some of the franchise\u2019s longtime stars like Angela or Big Ed.<\/p>\nThe infamous Big Ed Brown appears alongside his on-again, off-again (a dozen times over) love, Liz Woods in this promotional image for 90 Day: The Last Resort. (TLC)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nBut this season has been refreshing in many ways. <\/p>\n
David, Cleo, and even Statler and Dempsey are much-needed representation for a show that\u2019s been overwhelmingly able-bodied, cisgender, and straight. <\/p>\n
Clearly, showing people from more walks of life isn\u2019t hurting ratings at all. It\u2019s appealing to viewers.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
