Captain America 4<\/em> will feature Anthony Mackie<\/strong><\/a> playing the star-spangled superhero<\/a>, a fact Chris Evans<\/strong><\/a> emphasized when addressing speculation that he\u2019d return to the big screen as Steve Rogers.<\/p>\n \u201cSam Wilson is Captain America,\u201d Evans tweeted<\/a> in July 2022 after a tweet from The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> claimed it was \u201cunclear\u201d if he\u2019d return as Cap after leading the first three flicks.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is unclear if Chris Evans would reprise his role as the first #CaptainAmerica (though if the question of who is entitled to carry the shield continues, all bets are off),\u201d THR<\/em> tweeted<\/a> at the time. \u201cHaving stacked casts in solo outings is a key Marvel ingredient at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s worth noting that Evans didn\u2019t deny speculation that he\u2019d appear, but he confirmed what fans have known since Avengers: Endgame<\/em> \u2014 Steve Rogers is no longer Captain America. The Brooklyn-born hero passed the title to Sam Wilson (F.K.A. Falcon) at the end of the 2019 movie, which was Evans\u2019 final appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe<\/a>.<\/p>\n Audiences saw Mackie\u2019s character come to terms with the weight of Steve\u2019s legacy and eventually accept his role as the new Captain America in the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier<\/em>. In the final episode\u2019s credits, a title card read Captain America and the Winter Soldier<\/em>, confirming that Sam has worked through his concerns and fully accepted the mantle. The Lightyear<\/em> star has been supportive of Mackie\u2019s promotion.<\/p>\n \u201cNo one better to do it.
