Broadway\u2019s Once Upon a One More Time<\/em>, featuring the greatest hits of Britney Spears<\/strong><\/a>, will close on September 3.<\/p>\n The jukebox musical opened on June 22 after six weeks of previews at the Marquis Theatre and will end its Broadway run after just 123 performances.<\/p>\n Producers James L. Nederlander<\/strong> and Hunter Arnold<\/strong> hinted that while the show is saying goodbye to the Great White Way, plans are underway for new productions to travel internationally.<\/p>\n \u201cWe could not be prouder of this beautifully joyous and exhilarating show \u2014 which is not only a love letter to Britney\u2019s iconic artistry and singular effervescence, but also a brilliant display of the boundless talent of our cast and creative team,\u201d they said in a joint statement to Playbill<\/em><\/a> on Monday, August 21. \u201cWe want to express our heartfelt gratitude to this dream team of collaborators, performers, designers, staff, crew, and investors who continue to share our passion and joy for this project. As plans take shape for the show\u2019s future life around the globe, we\u2019re excited to share more news soon!\u201d<\/p>\n Once Upon a One More Time follows several iconic fairy tale characters \u2014 including Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty \u2014 after they find a copy of Betty Friedan\u2019s seminal 1963 book, The Feminine Mystique<\/em>, which blew up the notion that women achieved happiness only by being housewives and having children. Not surprisingly, the characters subsequently decide to change their fates.<\/p>\n Based on a book by Jon Hartmere<\/strong>, Once Upon a One More Time<\/em> was directed and choreographed by Keone<\/strong> and Mari Madrid<\/strong>, both of whom were making their Broadway<\/a> debut.<\/p>\n The show featured 25 of Spears\u2019 songs spanning her entire career, with classics such as \u201c\u2026Baby One More Time\u201d and \u201cFrom the Bottom of My Broken Heart\u201d as well as later hits like \u201cWork Bitch\u201d and \u201cMake Me.\u201d<\/p>\n The musical came together after Spears suggested a Broadway production featuring her tracks \u2014 as long as the story didn\u2019t focus on her.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was actually Britney who approached us and said, \u2018We\u2019d like to have a show based on my music, and specifically not a bio-musical,\u2019\u201d Arnold told Variety<\/em><\/a> in June. \u201cThe original idea came from ideas brought forth by her: She loves fairytales, princesses, storybooks. We took a couple of passes at it \u2014 we didn\u2019t get it right instantly. Then we did a workshop after we got the current-ish version together and she came to see it and give thoughts on it.\u201d<\/p>\n Spears praised Once Upon a Once More Time<\/em> via Instagram in June. \u201cGood luck to the hardworking cast and crew of Once Upon a One More Time<\/em> on opening night tonight \ud83c\udf39\ud83d\udc83\ud83c\udffc\u2728 !!!
