Will Arnett<\/strong><\/a> is a no-nonsense TV producer \u2014 he even almost fired himself.\u00a0<\/span> Arnett, 53, serves as both executive producer and star of the Peacock series Twisted Metal<\/em><\/a> \u2014 based on the video game of the same name \u2014 which premiered earlier this month. The actor voices the character Sweet Tooth, a killer clown who is portrayed on camera by pro wrestler Samoa Joe<\/strong>.<\/span> \u201cI was like, \u2018I don\u2019t want to mess this up,\u2019\u201d Arnett told ET Canada<\/em> <\/a>in an interview published on Friday, August 18. \u201c[Samoa Joe] did such an awesome job. And now I\u2019ve got to come in at the end and do this voice, and it took a few sessions to get it right, I\u2019ll say that much.\u201d<\/span> He joked, \u201cI got really close to firing myself \u2026 For real.\u201d<\/span> Anthony Mackie<\/a>, Thomas Haden Church, Stephanie Beatriz<\/a><\/strong> and Neve Campbell<\/strong><\/a> also star on the post-apocalyptic series, which follows John Doe (Mackie), a motor-mouthed outsider with no memory of his past, who is offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change his dangerous, nomadic life for the better. He can only do it, however, if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.<\/span> Arnett admitted he was surprised at how many A-list stars agreed to do the show \u2014 \u201cUsually when I\u2019m attached to a project, people run the other way,\u201d he joked \u2014 and wasn\u2019t initially intending to have a role at all.\u00a0<\/span> \u201cWhen we first started to develop the show, I wasn\u2019t necessarily going to do anything on the show,\u201d Arnett explained. \u201cThen they were like, \u2018Hey, what about the idea of you doing the voice of Sweet Tooth?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Sure.\u2019\u201d<\/span> \n Arnett confessed that he\u2019s \u201cnot sure\u201d he ever got Sweet Tooth\u2019s inflection the \u201cway he wanted,\u201d and that getting the voice good enough for the show \u201ctook a while\u201d due to the show\u2019s comedic and violent tones.\u00a0<\/span> \u201cOur show is fun and he\u2019s got to be a psycho that you believe<\/a> wants to kill everybody,\u201d Arnett explained. \u201cI know that sounds like a bad thing. In this case, it\u2019s good. And at the same time, we want him to be funny and kind of be the comedic relief in a lot of ways. So, yeah, it took a few sessions to get it right, if I\u2019m being honest and I am being honest.\u201d<\/span> Twisted Metal<\/em> isn\u2019t Arnett\u2019s first time working as a voice actor. He\u2019s lent his deep baritone vocals to The Lego Batman Movie, Danny Phantom, Ice Age: The Meltdown, Ratatouille, Horton Hears a Who!, Monsters vs. Aliens, Despicable Me, Teen Titans Go!<\/em> and more. He also starred on Netflix\u2019s hit animated series BoJack Horseman<\/em> from 2014 to 2020 and is part of the \u201cSmartLess\u201d podcast<\/a> alongside pals Jason Bateman<\/strong><\/a> and Sean Hayes<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span> \u201cI didn\u2019t really realize [I had a distinct voice]. You know, I\u2019m a dumb guy,\u201d Arnett quipped to the Associated Press<\/a> in June. \u201cI remember going to one of my first agents in New York and they were saying, \u2018Hey come with me, this is the voice-over department\u2019 \u2026 And they were like, \u2018We think that maybe this is something you could do.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Cool.\u2019 It never occurred to me!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
