Michael Cera<\/strong><\/a> REALLY wanted to play Allan in Barbie<\/strong><\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n In an interview with GQ<\/a><\/em> conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike, the 35-year-old actor revealed that he begged director Greta Gerwig<\/strong><\/a> to cast him in the hit movie.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt was a kind of very last-minute casting,\u201d Michael<\/strong> recalled.<\/p>\n \u201cMy manager got a call checking on my availability for it, and he called me and he said, \u2018I got a call about this movie. It\u2019s the Barbie<\/em> movie. Greta Gerwig\u2019s directing it, and it\u2019s filming in London for four months or something, so I told them you probably wouldn\u2019t want to to do it because you probably don\u2019t want to go to London,\u2019\u201d Michael<\/strong> continued.<\/p>\n \u201cI was like, \u2018What! Call them back!\u2019 He didn\u2019t like blow it or anything, but he\u2019s like, \u2018I managed their expectations that you might not want to do it,\u2019\u201d Michael<\/strong> added. \u201cI was like, \u2018How can I not do it? I need to do it!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Michael<\/strong> was then able to get in contact with Greta<\/strong> and told her how much he wanted to wanted to play Allan.<\/p>\n \u201cI somehow got Greta\u2019s email address, I think through a common friend of ours, and I emailed her like, \u2018Can I be in it? Can I do that part?\u2019\u201d Michael<\/strong> explained. \u201cAnd she was like, \u2018Let\u2019s get on a Zoom right now. Here\u2019s a Zoom link, I\u2019ll be on there for the next hour.\u2019 So she was just hanging out on the Zoom, like, \u2018Click the link whenever you\u2019re ready.\u2019 And then we talked about it, and it just all happened really fast from there.\u201d<\/p>\n For those unaware, Mattel first introduced Allan in 1964 as Ken\u2019s best friend, however, he doesn\u2019t fit into Ken\u2019s clothes and many fans questioned just how close the two actually are. He was discontinued a few years later.<\/p>\n \u201cAllan is a sad figure. He\u2019s just a person that doesn\u2019t really have any place in the world,\u201d Michael<\/strong> explained. \u201cThe world just didn\u2019t need for Ken to have a friend\u2026 Barbie is good, we can get a lot more Barbies in here, and friends of hers,\u201d Cera said. \u201cBut we\u2019ve got Ken, and we don\u2019t need to go deeper in that direction.
