And Just Like That<\/i><\/a> is officially saying goodbye<\/a> to Stanford Blatch, the beloved character portrayed by the late Willie Garson<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the Thursday, August 17, episode of the Max series, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker<\/strong><\/a>) shares a Stanford update with his estranged husband, Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n \u201cStanford asked me to speak to you,\u201d Carrie said, holding up a handwritten note that she received<\/a> from her longtime pal. \u201cHe\u2019s back in Japan, in Kyoto. He went to see the geishas and he\u2019s staying.\u201d<\/p>\n Stanford \u2014 who previously moved to Japan to be the talent manager<\/a> for a young TikTok star following Garson\u2019s death \u2014 sent Carrie a message and photo to explain what he was up to. \u201cHe\u2019s a Shinto monk. \u2026 No bit, he had a big, ugly fight with his TikTok client. She fired him and ran off to Berlin, he wandered around Kyoto for days crying,\u201d Carrie explained. \u201c[He] eventually found his way into a temple where, I guess, he stopped crying and he wrote, \u2018Carrie, for the first time in my life, I felt peace, real peace.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Anthony, who married Stanford in the Sex and the City 2<\/i><\/a> feature film, was taken aback by Carrie\u2019s revelation. \u201cWhy didn\u2019t he tell me this himself?\u201d he asked, putting down the cosmopolitan drink<\/a> that Carrie had offered him in Stanford\u2019s honor.<\/p>\n Carrie explained, per the note, that Stanford was afraid to tell Anthony out of fear that he would mock his newfound bliss.<\/p>\n \u201cHe also wrote that, \u2018My lawyers have enclosed all the legal work needed. The apartment and all of my belongings are now his,\u2019\u201d Carrie said to a now-surprised Anthony. \u201cI want no attachments. I have let go of all things that no serve me and I let it all go with love.\u201d<\/p>\n Anthony remarked that he was \u201cstunned\u201d that Stanford could let everything go as he\u2019s been the complete opposite. \u201cGood for him, good for him,\u201d he tearfully said before Carrie proposed a toast to \u201cStanny.\u201d<\/p>\n When asked who would get to \u201ckeep the photo\u201d of Stanford, Carrie proclaimed that she was \u201cvery attached\u201d to the image of Garson\u2019s character donning a traditional Japanese robe.<\/p>\n Anthony and Stanford had separated during And Just Like That <\/i>season 1<\/a> when Stanford moved to Asia. Anthony, for his part, has since tried to move on. Season 2 even introduced a new love interest<\/a> in Italian poet Giuseppe (Sebastiano Pigazzi<\/strong>), who proclaimed in Thursday\u2019s episode that he was in love with the Hotfellas breadmaker.<\/p>\n Thursday\u2019s episode comes nearly two years after Garson died at the age of 57 in September 2021<\/a>. Garson, who is survived by son Nathen<\/a>, had privately battled pancreatic cancer<\/a> prior to his passing.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was a real shock,\u201d Cantone, 63, said during a December 2021 appearance on SiriusXM\u2019s Gilbert Gottfried\u2019s Amazing Colossal Show<\/a>.<\/i> \u201cNone of us knew, and it was just, it was terrible.
