Carrie Bradshaw is reminiscing about her early years in Manhattan in the latest episode of And Just Like That<\/em><\/a> \u2014 which completely contradicts the franchise\u2019s Carrie Diaries <\/i><\/a>spinoff.<\/p>\n In the Thursday, August 17, episode, Aidan Shaw (John Corbett<\/strong><\/a>) is stunned that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker<\/strong><\/a>) had never previously visited Coney Island despite living in New York City for 35 years.<\/p>\n \u201c35 years? But you got to New York when you were 21? Wait a second, 21 plus 35 \u2014 hold up, are you old?\u201d Aidan quipped while walking down the pier<\/a> with Carrie.<\/p>\n According to Carrie and Aidan, the 56-year-old relationship author first arrived in the Big Apple in her early 20s. While their math checks out<\/a>, it completely erases the premise of The Carrie Diaries<\/i>, the short-lived CW spinoff that followed a young Carrie\u2019s first years<\/a> in the city. (The Carrie Diaries <\/i>was inspired by the novel of the same name, which was written by Sex and the City <\/i>scribe Candace Bushnell<\/strong> <\/a>and published in 2011.)<\/p>\n In The Carrie Diaries<\/i>\u2019 pilot episode, which aired in 2013, 16-year-old Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb<\/strong><\/a>) accepted an internship at a law firm in the city to help distract her from the overwhelming grief following her mother\u2019s death. Carrie \u2014 who lived in Castlebury, Connecticut, with father Tom (Matt Letscher<\/strong>) and sister Dorit (Stefania LaVie Owen<\/strong>) \u2014 would commute into the city via the train. During her first week, she meets Interview <\/i>magazine editor Larissa (Freema Agyeman<\/strong><\/a>), who is wowed by her custom \u201cCarrie\u201d purse and offers her an internship of her own.<\/p>\n Season 2 of The Carrie Diaries <\/i>allowed Carrie to further flourish in the big city, living there full-time for the summer while continuing to work at Interview<\/i>. The Carrie Diaries <\/i>was ultimately canceled in 2014.<\/p>\n While The Carrie Diaries<\/i> garnered a crowd of devoted fans, Parker, now 58, was not among them.<\/p>\n \u201cYou know, I think it\u2019s one of those tests of your generosity,\u201d the Hocus Pocus <\/i><\/a>star told Net-a-Porter\u2019s The Edit <\/i><\/a>in a March 2013 profile when asked about the spinoff. \u201c[AnnaSophia Robb] is a lovely girl and I want her to feel good about it, but it\u2019s \u2026 odd.\u201d<\/p>\n While Parker was \u201cnot sure\u201d about the prequel, Robb, now 29, was excited about landing the role of young Carrie.<\/p>\n \u201cI realized it was actually a really strong story,\u201d she previously gushed to Teen Vogue <\/i>one month earlier<\/a> in February 2013. \u201cIt had a lot of heart and integrity, and Carrie seems like a character that I can grow with.\u201d<\/p>\n Robb continued at the time: \u201cThey told me that I got the part because I did a little chicken dance at the end of my audition after they asked me about my prom. I\u2019ve got rhythm, but not the moves to go with it, and I guess they liked that I wasn\u2019t afraid to be goofy.\u201d<\/p>\n Thursday\u2019s episode is not the first time that Sex and the City <\/i>has ignored The Carrie Diaries<\/i>\u2019 story lines<\/a>. The OG series once mentioned that Carrie\u2019s father had left her family growing up, which is not the case in The Carrie Diaries <\/i>as Tom is a single parent for the duration of the show. The second feature-length movie also reinvented how Carrie met her besties.\u00a0 Carrie explained that she met Charlotte (Kristin Davis<\/strong><\/a>), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon<\/strong><\/a>) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall<\/strong><\/a>) in that order, which deviates from the CW series. The Carrie Diaries<\/i> season 2 introduced young Samantha<\/a> (Lindsay Gort<\/strong><\/a>) long before Charlotte and Miranda arrived on the scene.
