American Horror Story<\/em><\/a> has landed its share of A-list guest actors over the years \u2014 Lady Gaga<\/strong><\/a> and Stevie Nicks<\/strong><\/a>, for example \u2014 but few have made as many headlines as the upcoming 12th season\u2019s star<\/a>: Kim Kardashian<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n AHS<\/em> cocreator Ryan Murphy<\/strong><\/a> announced the news<\/a> in April, sending fans into a tailspin. Some were pleased by the addition of Kardashian to the long-running franchise, while others \u2014 including past AHS<\/em> cast members \u2014 were upset by the casting choice.<\/p>\n Patti LuPone<\/strong>, who appeared in Coven<\/em> and NYC<\/em>, questioned Kardashian\u2019s decision<\/a> to take on an acting role while having so little acting experience. \u201cExcuse me, excuse me, Kim. What are you doing with your life?\u201d LuPone asked during an April appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen<\/em>, adding that she was unhappy about Kardashian taking roles from more established actors.<\/p>\n Kardashian, for her part, said in May that she\u2019s been taking acting lessons<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a challenge,\u201d she told Variety<\/em>. \u201cI like to challenge myself.\u201d<\/p>\n While Kardashian has less experience than her costars, AHS<\/em> is actually not her first time playing someone other than herself. The book \u2014 light spoilers ahead \u2014 follows an actress named Anna Alcott who comes to believe that someone is going to great lengths to stop her from fulfilling her dream of getting pregnant. She eventually does get pregnant but then suffers a miscarriage. Anna, however, doesn\u2019t think she really lost the baby. Is she hallucinating, or is something else going on?<\/p>\n In addition to Kardashian, Delicate<\/em> stars Emma Roberts<\/strong><\/a> as main character Anna Alcott. The cast also includes Zachary Quinto<\/strong><\/a>, Matt Czuchry<\/strong><\/a>, Cara Delevingne<\/strong><\/a>, Annabelle Dexter-Jones<\/strong> and Debra Monk<\/strong>. Michaela J\u00e1e Rodriguez<\/strong>, a veteran of Murphy\u2019s show Pose<\/em>, will make her AHS<\/em> debut.<\/p>\n LuPone wasn\u2019t the only actor to raise objections about Kardashian\u2019s participation in the series. After LuPone spoke out, Sharon Stone<\/strong><\/a> shared her thoughts in the comments section of an Instagram post about Kardashian\u2019s casting. \u201cIt may not be brain surgery but we do treasure our art. We studied, we suffered, we do suffer for it. Ten thousand hours; it\u2019s a thing,\u201d Stone wrote in April<\/a>, referencing the idea that 10,000 hours of practice leads to success in a chosen field, popularized by Malcolm Gladwell<\/strong>\u2019s 2008 book, Outliers<\/em>.<\/p>\n Two months later, critics questioned why AHS<\/em> was still filming after the Writers Guild of America went on strike<\/a>. Murphy, for his part, denied a series of viral tweets claiming that AHS<\/em> crew members were told they would be \u201cblackballed\u201d if they didn\u2019t cross the picket line.<\/p>\n Part one of American Horror Story: Delicate<\/em> premieres on FX Wednesday, September 20, at 10 p.m. ET.
