Sydney Sweeney says the controversy that erupted over the birthday party she threw for her mum\u2019s 60th was full of \u2018misinterpretations\u2018<\/p>\n
\nThe 26-year-old \u2018Euphoria\u2019 actress ended up being slammed online over the bash for her mother Lisa Mudd as photos of the celebration showed guests in what appeared to be Blue Lives Matter garb and MAGA-styled red caps later revealed to read \u2018Make Sixty Great Again\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nSydney told Variety, in an interview conducted before the Hollywood actor\u2019s strike: \u201cThere were so many misinterpretations.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe people in the pictures weren\u2019t even my family.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe people who brought the things that people were upset about were actually my mom\u2019s friends from LA who have kids that are walking outside in the Pride parade, and they thought it would be funny to wear because they were coming to Idaho.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nShe also revealed her dad Steven Sweeney wasn\u2019t at the gathering.<\/p>\n
\nSydney told the magazine she has to constantly think about what she says in interviews so it isn\u2019t taken out of context.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cWhen we have a two-hour conversation and there\u2019s six quotes in it, it\u2019s so hard to have the context behind what we\u2019re speaking about, and how we\u2019re saying it to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSydney also revealed she tries to get her uncle to stop talking about news around her, adding: \u201cI\u2019ll see my uncle comment on things and I\u2019m like, \u2018You gotta stop.\u2019<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut it\u2019s so hard, because I grew up in a small town, and they don\u2019t get the business of it all.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSydney also told Variety she feels a \u201cresponsibility\u201d to show her parents their sacrifices for her career were \u201cworth it\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nThe actress was supported throughout her acting dreams and endless auditions by her mum and dad, who divorced and filed for bankruptcy as she was chasing her career ambitions.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cMy parents sacrificed so much to support my dream, and they lost so much during it. I just felt a responsibility to show them that it was worth it.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nWhen asked if the sacrifices her parents made contribute to their family crises, she replied: \u201cI\u2019ll never know. I think as a kid, as the eldest, I feel a responsibility.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThey\u2019ll say no, or they\u2019ll say yes, depending on what fight it is.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut I\u2019ll always feel responsible. But that\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
