The Band guitarist was part of Bob\u2019s backing group known as The Hawks when the \u201cLike a Rolling Stone\u2019 singer was famously booed by fans at gigs in the mid-1960s for ditching his acoustic folk style for rock. <\/p>\n

Robbie, whose death aged 80 was announced on Wednesday (09.08.23), said in a 2017 chat with Mojo that has been reprinted by the magazine in honour of his legacy: \u201c(Bob Dylan<\/a> and The Hawks) got booed all over North America, Australia, Europe, and people were saying this isn\u2019t working and we kept on and Bob didn\u2019t budge. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe got to a place where we would listen to these tapes and say, \u2018You know what? They\u2019re wrong. And we\u2019re right.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cEight years later, we do a tour, the (1974) Dylan\/Band tour. We play the same way, same intensity and everybody says, \u2018Wow, that was amazing.\u2019<\/p>\n

\n\u201cThe world came around \u2013 we didn\u2019t change a note.\u201d <\/p>\n

\nRobbie added about Bob, 82, praising his guitar style as so precise it seemed \u201cmathematical\u201d: \u201cIt\u2019s having a structure (that\u2019s) improvised and at the same time you have a sense of dynamics \u2013 when to rise, when to fall, when to shimmer, when to growl. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cWhen The Hawks hooked up with Dylan, he found this explosive, dynamic thing. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cBecause of his intensity, it raised everything up and we didn\u2019t come down enough and people were saying this music is so loud we can\u2019t hear the words. \u201cPart of that was he wanted that raging spirit on these songs.\u201d <\/p>\n

\nAlong with writing The Band\u2019s most iconic hits including \u2018The Weight\u2019, the guitar icon recorded a string of solo albums, wrote children\u2019s books and worked with Martin Scorsese scoring more than a dozen of his films.<\/p>\n

\nRobbie\u2019s manager of 34 years Jared Levine announced his death by saying in a statement: \u201cRobbie was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, including his wife, Janet, his ex-wife, Dominique, her partner Nicholas, and his children Alexandra, Sebastian, Delphine and Delphine\u2019s partner Kenny. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cHe is also survived by his grandchildren Angelica, Donovan, Dominic, Gabriel and Seraphina.\u201d <\/p>\n

\nInstead of flowers, the guitarist\u2019s family asked fans to make any donations they wished to the Six Nations of the Grand River to \u201csupport a new Woodland Cultural Center\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
