The \u2018Goodfellas\u2019 filmmaker, 80, spoke out about his devastation at the loss of \u2018The Band\u2019 guitarist after his death aged 80 was announced on Wednesday by Robbie\u2019s long-term manager.<\/p>\n
Scorsese \u2013 who documented the final concert of \u2018The Band\u2019 in his iconic \u2018The Last Waltz\u2019 rockumentary, which is widely hailed as the best music documentary ever made, before going on to work with him on the soundtracks for his biggest movies \u2013 said in a statement: \u201cRobbie Robertson was one of my closest friends, a constant in my life and my work.<\/p>\n
\u201cI could always go to him as a confidante. A collaborator. An advisor. I tried to be the same for him.<\/p>\n
\u201cLong before we ever met, his music played a central role in my life \u2014 me and millions and millions of other people all over this world.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThe Band\u2019s music, and Robbie\u2019s own later solo music, seemed to come from the deepest place at the heart of this continent, its traditions and tragedies and joys. It goes without saying that he was a giant, that his effect on the art form was profound and lasting. There\u2019s never enough time with anyone you love. And I loved Robbie.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nScorsese produced another documentary on \u2018The Band\u2019 called \u2018Once Were Brothers\u2019 in 2019.<\/p>\n
\nAmong the director\u2019s films scored by Robbie were \u2018Raging Bull\u2019, \u2018Casino\u2019, \u2018The Wolf of Wall Street\u2019, \u2018The Irishman\u2019 and \u2018The Color of Money\u2019.<\/p>\n
\nHe was working on music when he died for the filmmaker\u2019s upcoming film \u2018Killers of the Flower Moon\u2019 starring Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, scheduled for release later this year.<\/p>\n
\nRobbie\u2019s manager of 34 years Jared Levine announced his death by saying in a statement: \u201cRobbie was surrounded by his family at the time of his death, including his wife, Janet, his ex-wife, Dominique, her partner Nicholas, and his children Alexandra, Sebastian, Delphine and Delphine\u2019s partner Kenny.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe is also survived by his grandchildren Angelica, Donovan, Dominic, Gabriel and Seraphina.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nInstead of flowers, the guitarist\u2019s family asked fans to make any donations they wished to the Six Nations of the Grand River to \u201csupport a new Woodland Cultural Center\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
