Robert De Niro<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez\u2019s official cause of death has been revealed one month after his passing.<\/p>\n New York City\u2019s chief medical examiner told TMZ<\/a> on Tuesday, August 8, that Leandro had fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine and cocaine in his system, ruling his death an accidental overdose.<\/p>\n Leandro died at age 19<\/a> in July. His mother, Drena De Niro<\/strong> \u2014 whom Robert adopted while married to her mother, Diahnne Abbott<\/strong> \u2014 penned a heartwarming tribute to the late teenager at the time.<\/p>\n \u201cMy beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly,\u201d Drena wrote via Instagram. \u201cI don\u2019t know how to live without you but I\u2019ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama. You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you \ud83d\ude1e.\u201d<\/p>\n The filmmaker shared Leandro with artist Carlos Mare<\/strong>, whom she mentioned in her emotional statement. \u201cI\u2019m so sorry my baby, I\u2019m so sorry @carlosmare \ud83d\ude22\ud83d\udc94. You can\u2019t spell LOVE without LEO \ud83d\udc7c\ud83d\udc94\ud83d\udc94.\u201d<\/p>\n Prior to the official cause of death being revealed, Drena responded to a social media user who asked how her son died. \u201cSomeone sold him fentanyl laced pills<\/a> that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him so for all these people still f\u2014king around selling and buying this s\u2014t, my son is gone forever \ud83d\ude2d,\u201d she claimed in July. Last month, several outlets reported that Sofia Haley Marks<\/strong> had been arrested<\/a> on federal drug distribution charges for allegedly selling Leandro drugs.<\/p>\n Shortly after the news broke of Leandro\u2019s death, Drena expressed her gratitude for the support she and her family had received in the wake of their loss.<\/p>\n It is with immeasurable shock and sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo,\u201d she said in a statement to Us Weekly<\/em> on July 3. \u201cWe thank you for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we are given privacy at this time to process this inconsolable grief.\u201d<\/p>\n Robert, for his part, also reacted to the death<\/a> of his oldest grandson.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo,\u201d the Oscar winner told Us<\/em> in a statement at the time. \u201cWe\u2019re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone.
