Noah Schnapp<\/a><\/strong> said he \u201ccried\u201d following the reaction after revealing that he was gay.<\/p>\n The 18-year-old actor, who rose to fame on the hit Netflix science fiction series Stranger Things<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, came out in a video in January.<\/p>\n Schnapp, who stars as Will Byers in the drama, said he received \u201ca thousand texts of hearts and congratulations and rainbow flags\u201d after coming out.<\/p>\n After being initially resistant to looking at the social media response, he said: \u201cI was crying. I was like, \u2018I made it. I\u2019m done. I don\u2019t have to worry\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n Recalling his family\u2019s response to finding out the news, Schnapp told Variety<\/a><\/em>: \u201cBeing fully aware of it and just completely, blatantly hiding it, it was really hard. It just made everything miserable for those months.<\/p>\n \u201cI couldn\u2019t tell (my mother) how I was feeling without telling her what the problem was, so just one night at dinner, I was like, \u2018This is it\u2019. She was like, \u2018Finally, you told me\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n Schnapp also told fellow Stranger Things<\/em> star Millie Bobby Brown<\/a><\/strong> and the series executive producer Shawn Levy<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cIt was truly such a liberating feeling, just seeing my parents cheer me on. I\u2019ve never felt so supported and loved.\u201d<\/p>\n Following the Stranger Things<\/em> season four finale, Schnapp told the publication that his character Will was gay prior to coming out.<\/p>\n \u201cI guess I\u2019m more similar to Will than I thought,\u201d the actor captioned his TikTok video this year. He also wrote: \u201cWhen I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was \u2018we know\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n Fans began to speculate about Will\u2019s sexuality after the 2016 debut of the hit Netflix drama.<\/p>\n Schnapp hit out at comments at the time, saying: \u201cFor me, Will being gay or not is besides the point.\u201d<\/p>\n In June, Schnapp said on Instagram that he attended his first Pride event in New York, US.<\/p>\n Stranger Things<\/em> will return for a fifth and final season with Terminator<\/em> star Linda Hamilton joining the cast.<\/p>\n The show is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, in the 1980s.
