Is Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> a Heartstopper<\/em> fan? The Netflix series\u2019 executive producers think so after she allowed them to use her Folklore<\/em> song \u201cSeven\u201d in the season 2 finale.<\/p>\n \u201cI have to say her team was so receptive to it. I don\u2019t have any proof of this, but I feel like they\u2019re Heartstopper<\/em><\/a> fans,\u201d executive producer Patrick Waters<\/strong> told Elle<\/em><\/a> in an interview published earlier this month. \u201cWhereas with some artists that I won\u2019t name [made it] tough and we couldn\u2019t get them in the show, Taylor Swift really came through for us.\u201d<\/p>\n Fans may have noticed earlier in the season that there\u2019s a Folklore<\/em><\/a> poster in Tara\u2019s (Corinna Brown<\/strong>) bedroom, but it wasn\u2019t until the end of season 2\u2019s finale episode that a track from the album played. After originally just seeking the rights to the poster, the Heartstopper<\/em> team sent clips and wrote letters to explain to Swift\u2019s team that \u201cSeven\u201d was important for the moment.<\/p>\n \u201cLyrically, it\u2019s not a complete perfect match [with Darcy\u2019s story line], but there\u2019s just something about some of the lyrics that made us associate it with Tara and Darcy,\u201d Walters told Elle<\/em>.<\/p>\n The song plays after the main characters \u2014 a.k.a. the Paris Squad \u2014 have left prom in favor of hanging out at Nick\u2019s (Kit Connor<\/strong><\/a>) house without the prying eyes of their classmates (who were staring at some of the only openly LGBT<\/a> kids in school). It was a stressful night for Tara, who mistakenly thought she was being stood up at prom only to find out that Darcy (Kizzy Edgell<\/strong>) ran away from home the night prior amid an argument with her homophobic mother.<\/p>\n \u201cDarcy\u2019s character is so strong, and she has such a sense of self that she cannot bear to live that way anymore,\u201d director Euros Lyn added. \u201cAs she sees it, the only way to do that is to run away from home, but still she can\u2019t admit that to Tara.\u201d<\/p>\n Tara and Darcy finally open up to each other at Nick\u2019s house when Darcy admits to sleeping in the park rather than going to Tara\u2019s house. She wanted to be the strong one for Tara, revealing that she is not out to her parents. Darcy says Tara has only seen half her life, so she can\u2019t know if she loves her. \u201cI\u2019m a literal disaster,\u201d Darcy says.<\/p>\n \u201cOh, I know. I actually like how much of a disaster you are,\u201d Tara says. The declaration prompts Darcy to finally say \u201cI love you\u201d to her girlfriend. Cue the Taylor Swift.<\/p>\n \u201cWe had this beautiful montage after that [Tara and Darcy] scene of all of the friendship group having the time of their lives away from prom, just being who they are with each other, with no sense of judgment or the world looking in,\u201d Walters recalls. \u201cThe song went over that in the most beautiful way, so once we saw that, we were like, \u2018Oh my God, we need Taylor Swift to let us have this song.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n After a sweet kiss, Tara and Darcy share the sweet dance that they didn\u2019t get to have at prom.
