Busta Rhymes<\/strong><\/a> shed 100 pounds<\/a> over the past few years \u2014 and one specific incident helped push him to make a change.<\/p>\n \u201cI was getting ready to have an intimate moment with my ex. I had a breathing issue after the intimate interaction,\u201d the rapper, 51, recalled during a recent interview with Men\u2019s Health<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI was having a really difficult time breathing, so I got up and I walked out of the bedroom so she wouldn\u2019t panic seeing me trying to keep myself calm.\u201d<\/p>\n Busta \u2014 whose real name is Trevor George Smith Jr. \u2014 said he felt like he was having an \u201casthma attack\u201d but noted he doesn\u2019t have asthma. \u201cThat was scaring me so much that it was a mindf\u2013k, because I had to stay calm and make sure she didn\u2019t hear me panic or hear me struggle to breathe,\u201d he remembered. \u201cI\u2019m butt-ass naked in the living room, trying to calm myself down.\u201d<\/p>\n When he returned to the bedroom, his ex told him that he was no longer the man she fell in love with. \u201cShe didn\u2019t know what had happened outside, but she was looking at my body and the weight,\u201d Busta said. \u201cShe was like, \u2018You gotta lose this weight. This breathing is scaring me. When I met you, you wasn\u2019t like a musclehead, but you, you was slim, you was cut, you had your s\u2013t right. I need you to get back to who I fell in love with.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Busta went on to note that another incident in May 2019 added to his concern. He passed out in the car after a party, and it took his eldest son, T\u2019ziah, and his security team about 45 minutes to wake him up. At the time, he had polyps on his vocal cords blocking 90 percent of his air passages and causing severe sleep apnea.<\/p>\n \u201cI ran from the surgery as long as I could, but after that weekend I saw the doctor and he looked at my throat and he said I could die in my sleep,\u201d Busta said. \u201cThat\u2019s when I got surgery and started to get back in shape.\u201d<\/p>\n Busta has since lost 100 pounds<\/a> and has recently upped his workout regimen<\/a> to prep for an upcoming tour with 50 Cent<\/strong><\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m doing two-a-day workouts, everything: weights, circuits, sauna, cryotherapy,\u201d he explained, adding that he also swears by \u201ca healthy diet regimen, significant water intake, getting your sleep so your body can repair itself when you beat it up and you tear that muscle from the workouts.\u201d<\/p>\n![\"Busta](\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Busta-Rhymes-Decided-to-Lose-100-Lbs-After-Asthma-Scare.jpg?w=700&quality=86&strip=all\")
