The All-American Rejects<\/a> have had several hits \u2014 but Tyson Ritter<\/strong><\/a> revealed one had an unexpected impact on none other than Kristen Stewart<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a song called \u2018There\u2019s a Place\u2019 that I wrote for the film called Miss You Already<\/em> that starred Toni Collette<\/strong><\/a> and Drew Barrymore<\/strong><\/a> and I got to be in the film,\u201d Ritter, 39, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on Thursday, August 3, while chatting about the band\u2019s Wet Hot All-American Summer Tour<\/em><\/a>. \u201cIt was a Catherine Hardwicke<\/strong> movie, and she asked me to write a song. And I was in my London flat with my ukulele and this song spilled outta me.\u201d<\/p>\n Ritter plays Ace in the 2015 dramedy, which starred Barrymore, 48, and Collette, 50, as two best friends whose lives get turned upside down after one of them is diagnosed with cancer.<\/p>\n After playing the song at a charity event attended by Hardwicke, 67, and Stewart, 33, Ritter said the actress told him the tune helped get through a romantic hardship. (Hardwicke directed the first film in the Twilight<\/em><\/a> franchise.)<\/p>\n \u201c[Kristen] came up to me and was like, \u2018You did this song?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Yeah.\u2019 She\u2019s like, \u2018I f\u2014king just got over a breakup and I love this song,\u2019\u201d he shared. \u201cAnd I was so taken aback \u2019cause I was like, \u2018But you\u2019re Kristen Stewart and I love you and you\u2019re great. You\u2019re a great artist and you like something I made.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Though Stewart didn\u2019t specify whom her breakup was with, the song was released two years after her split from Twilight<\/em> costar Robert Pattinson<\/strong><\/a>, whom she dated from 2009 to 2013. (In 2012, Us<\/em> broke the news<\/a> that Stewart had cheated on The Batman<\/em><\/a> actor, 37, with director Rupert Sanders<\/strong><\/a>.) Following her breakup with Pattinson, Steweart began dating Alicia Cargile<\/strong> in 2014. The pair called it quits in 2016.<\/p>\n Over the years, Stewart has moved on with stars such as St. Vincent<\/strong>, Soko<\/strong>, Stella Maxwell<\/strong><\/a> and Sara Dinkin<\/strong> before getting engaged<\/a> to Dylan Meyer<\/strong><\/a> in November 2021.<\/p>\n Not only did \u201cThere\u2019s a Place\u201d have an impact on Stewart, but also on Ritter. \u201cI approach everything with massive amounts of self-deprecation,\u201d he explained to Us<\/em>. \u201cIt\u2019s really hard to get me to like myself, but that made me feel a sense of self-worth that I haven\u2019t had in a long time. And that was a really special moment to me, to know that a song that I did 20-plus years after our career began had its own little, like, you know, biosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n Other All-American Rejects songs Ritter said he\u2019s particularly proud of are \u201cMona Lisa,\u201d \u201cBelieve\u201d and \u201cSwing, Swing,\u201d the latter of which he has \u201csuch an affinity\u201d for.<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cI always kind of say to myself, I\u2019m like, \u2018I like this song, man.\u2019 And people ask, \u2018Oh my God, does it get tiring to play these things?\u2019 And when you see someone singing it \u2026 it in front of you, it gives it a life that fills you with that energy to be able to perform it back at them like that.\u201d<\/p>\n Ritter is gearing up to sing along with fans on the band\u2019s Wet Hot All-American Summer Tour<\/em>, which kicks off on August 11 in Tampa, Florida, and features New Found Glory, Motion City Soundtrack and The Get Up Kids.\u201cThis tour is the biggest headlining tour we\u2019ve ever done in our career,\u201d Ritter noted. \u201cAnd that it\u2019s happening 20 years plus into our career. [The fact] that we get to do this, that we even get to do this is what I\u2019m most excited about.\u201d<\/p>\n Having been on the road with the group since he was 17 years old, Ritter said he\u2019s \u201cexcited to deliver a show that maybe some people have waited their lives to see from us.
