Bryan Cranston<\/a> has led the tributes to ‘Breaking Bad’ actor Mark Margolis, following his death at the age of 83.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Bryan Cranston leads tributes to Mark Margolis<\/p>\n
Mark was best known for his role as the wheelchair-bound, bell-ringing drug kingpin Hector \u2018T\u00edo\u2019 Salamanca on the show and his final role was in Cranston’s Showtime series \u2018Your Honor’.<\/p>\n
Bryan said in a tribute: “Mark Margolis was a really good actor and a lovely human being. Fun and engaging off the set, and (in the case of Breaking Bad and Your Honor) intimidating and frightening on set.<\/p>\n
“His quiet energy belied his mischievous nature and curious mind\u2026 And he loved sharing a good joke. I miss him already. Rest now, Mark and thank you for your friendship and your exceptional body of work.”<\/p>\n
Mark reprised his \u2018Breaking Bad\u2019 role for five seasons of the spin-off series \u2018Better Call Saul\u2019 alongside Bob Odenkirk and Bob shared: “A powerful screen presence! Mark made me laugh in the van on the way to set with his jokes and comments and I only hope I have half his energy and focus when \u2018Action\u2019 was shouted. Thank you, Mark, and condolences to your family.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n‘Better Call Saul’ co-creator Peter Gould added, \u201cAbsolutely devastated to hear that we\u2019ve lost Mark Margolis. Mark was brilliant, funny, a raconteur with a million stories. I miss him already.\u201c<\/p>\n
\nThe official ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ Twitter accounts shared the message: \u201cWe join millions of fans in mourning the passing of the immensely talented Mark Margolis, who \u2013 with his eyes, a bell, and very few words \u2013 turned Hector Salamanca into one of the most unforgettable characters in the history of television. He will be missed.”<\/p>\n
\nMark’s son Morgan Margolis revealed his father died at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City after battling a short illness. <\/p>\n
\nAlong with his son Morgan \u2013 who is CEO of Knitting Factory Entertainment \u2013 Mark is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, to whom he was married for 61 years, and three grandchildren. <\/p>\n
\nMovies he is credited with include \u2018Ace Ventura: Pet Detective\u2019 and \u2018My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2\u2019. <\/p>\n
\nHe was also a notable stage acting and appeared as Gus in Tony Kushner\u2019s \u2018The Intelligent Homosexual\u2019s Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures\u2019 in 2014. <\/p>\n
\nBorn in Philadelphia, he studied acting under Stella Adler at the Actors Studio.<\/p>\n
\nHis career kicked off in the mid-1970s before he landed his breakout role as Alberto the Shadow in 1983\u2019s \u2018Scarface\u2019 starring Al Pacino. <\/p>\n
\nYears later he appeared as a maths teacher in director Darren Aronofsky\u2019s 1998 psychological thriller \u2018Pi\u2019 <\/p>\n
\nIt was the start of a long working relationship, with Mark also starring in Darren\u2019s films \u2018Requiem for a Dream\u2019, \u2018The Fountain\u2019, \u2018The Wrestler\u2019, \u2018Black Swan\u2019, and \u2018Noah\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
