Shaquille O\u2019Neal<\/strong> <\/a>may have retired from the NBA in 2011<\/a>, but he\u2019s not slowing down yet as evidenced by his latest gym workout.<\/p>\n \u201cIn my former life I was @philheath we almost there @rocshabazz that @novexbiotech #gf9 baby,\u201d O\u2019Neal, 51, captioned a Thursday, August 3, Instagram<\/a> video as he prepared to lift weights.<\/p>\n As the basketball icon stepped into the room, he tore off his gray tank top \u2014 right down the middle. Once he removed his shirt, O\u2019Neal headed over to his weight bench<\/a> to start a rep.<\/p>\n He pumped himself up even further by adding a monologue from the anime Tokyo Ghoul<\/i> to the background of the video.<\/p>\n \u201cI was born with something inside me that refused to settle for average and I\u2019m grateful for it,\u201d the voiceover quipped. \u201cI am a warrior, a destroyer, a force of pure violence and all that I desire is the sheer glory of victory. Mercy is for the weak, surrender for those who have no conviction. I am coming for this world and all it has to offer. Nothing will stop me.\u201d<\/p>\n O\u2019Neal \u2014 who previously played basketball for the Orlando Magic, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Miami Heat, the Phoenix Suns, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics \u2014 has recently been candid about his wellness journey<\/a> stemming from his desire to lose weight<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI lost 40 pounds. I need to lose about 20 more, but [it\u2019s] impressive,\u201d he told Entertainment Tonight<\/i> <\/a>in December 2022. \u201cImma get real chiseled up and do an underwear ad with my sons.\u201d<\/p>\n O\u2019Neal \u2014 who shares four kids with ex-wife Shaunie O\u2019Neal<\/strong> <\/a>and daughter Taahirah<\/a> with ex-girlfriend Arnetta Yardbourgh<\/strong> \u2014 told the outlet that his progress was \u201call about eating right.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c[Because] I was the athlete \u2014 I wasn\u2019t a salad eater. I won\u2019t pay attention to any of that. I don\u2019t care about none of that,\u201d O\u2019Neal recalled to the outlet of learning to get in shape<\/a> and change his habits. \u201cI didn\u2019t know the difference between a carb and a protein at 50 years old, I never knew. So, [my doctor] was saying you can\u2019t do this, you can\u2019t do that, more vegetables, my iron\u2019s low. And once I just started changing those certain things, it dropped.\u201d<\/p>\n He added at the time: \u201cPlus the supplements I\u2019m taking, and the shakes I\u2019m drinking, the weight just fell off.
