Into the danger zone again? A Top Gun: Maverick<\/em> sequel hasn\u2019t yet been announced, but fans are clamoring for one \u2014 and so are some of the blockbuster film\u2019s cast<\/a> and crew members.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy whole cast, we would all be there in a heartbeat,\u201d Jay Ellis<\/strong>, who played Reuben \u201cPayback\u201d Fitch in the hit movie, told Fox News Digital<\/em><\/a> in November 2022. \u201cWe would be grateful to be there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Released in May 2022, the action drama followed Captain Pete \u201cMaverick\u201d Mitchell<\/a> (Tom Cruise<\/strong><\/a>) as he recruited and trained a new generation of fighter pilots for a specialized mission. Development on the film began in 2010, but it took another seven years to nail down the script and director. The lengthy process paid off, however, with the movie becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 2022 and the highest-grossing film of Cruise\u2019s entire career.<\/p>\n

In addition to Ellis, Maverick featured Glen Powell<\/strong>, Miles Teller<\/strong><\/a>, Lewis Pullman<\/strong><\/a>, Monica Barbaro<\/strong>, Danny Ramirez<\/strong>, Manny Jacinto<\/strong> and Greg Tarzan Davis<\/strong> as some of the recruits vying for a spot<\/a> on Mitchell\u2019s team. Pullman, for his part, said that watching Cruise in action was one of the best parts about working on the movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to just transform into a sponge and just absorb, absorb, absorb because it was a new lesson every day,\u201d the Press Play<\/em> star exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> in June 2022<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019ve never seen anyone approach filmmaking the way he does, and I\u2019ve also never seen someone that far into their career who still has such drive, has such curiosity, has such passion has such a reluctance to settle, is always trying to make even the smallest scenes better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jason Walsh<\/strong>, who trained Teller for his role as Bradley \u201cRooster\u201d Bradshaw, said that the Mission: Impossible<\/em> star made sure the cast was physically prepared for the film, down to having them go through flight training.<\/p>\n

\u201cTom is a huge advocate of making sure that these guys are really put through the rigors and the tests,\u201d the fitness instructor told Us<\/em> in June 2022<\/a>. \u201cYou can see it on their face. When they\u2019re doing this, they\u2019re not faking it. This is real.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis, who played Javy \u201cCoyote\u201d Machado, said that the flight training was hard \u2014 but so was prepping for the instantly iconic beach football match. \u201cWe also had to get sexy for the beach scene,\u201d he told Us<\/em> in January 2023. \u201cSo, it was a lot of starvation, a lot of anger, a lot of testosterone, just running wild like, \u2018I need food.\u2019 Once we got done filming the beach scene, we just devoured food.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Maverick<\/em> director said that a third film depends on finding another story worth telling. \u201cIs there another story that is compelling enough that we need to go back?\u201d he told Deadline<\/em> in December 2022. \u201cIt seems to me at the end of this film that Maverick has some gas left in the tank. He\u2019s not settling down.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
