Suzanne Somers<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 priorities have shifted \u2014 and her career is taking a back seat \u2014 following her recent cancer battle.<\/p>\n \u201cSuzanne has lived with cancer all her life,\u201d Somers\u2019 husband, Alan Hamel<\/strong><\/a>, told Page Six<\/em><\/a> on Monday, July 31, recalling that \u201cin her 20s, she\u2019d also dealt with two hyperplasia \u2026 which is the waiting room for cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n Hamel, 87, explained that Somers, 76, was given \u201can all-clear\u201d diagnosis on June 6 after dealing with \u201cher cancer once again.\u201d He noted that \u201ccancer is tricky\u201d so he and Somers will \u201cnow closely monitor everything going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n Although the Three\u2019s Company<\/em> alum<\/a> is feeling better, Hamel said his wife will be taking a break from Hollywood. \u201cWe decided to put work on the back burner for now and focus on her health,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n Hamel added that Somers\u2019 doctors told the family that if the actress \u201cdidn\u2019t lead a chemical-free, organic life supported by bioidentical hormones, she wouldn\u2019t be with us.\u201d<\/p>\n Somers first battled skin cancer during her 30s and was later diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000<\/a>. At the time, she chose to forgo chemotherapy and treated the disease by having a lumpectomy and radiation.<\/p>\n \u201cI have a new standard of care,\u201d she told Us Weekly<\/em><\/a> in October 2018 while reflecting on her health journey. \u201cI didn\u2019t want chemical poison, I changed my diet, I eat real food, organic food only \u2014 if you can pick it, pluck it, milk it or shoot it.\u201d<\/p>\n Somers continued: \u201cI eat buttercream, sour cream, cream cheese, all organic, no hormones. I sleep eight hours a night and I don\u2019t take any drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n The former Step by Step<\/em> star further described her lifestyle as \u201coptimal,\u201d telling Us<\/em> at the time that she didn\u2019t \u201cworry about cancer\u201d and a possible return.<\/p>\n Ahead of fighting cancer for a second time, Somers suffered two other health scares. In January 2020, she fractured her hip, and later that year, she suffered a terrible fall<\/a>.<\/p>\n Somers revealed in October 2020 that she underwent neck surgery<\/a> after taking a tumble down her stairs. \u201cI had an intense amount of pain after the fall that was not resolving \u2014 even after having tequila!\u201d she joked via Instagram at the time. \u201cAfter several scans, it was determined I had 2 vertebrae out of place which was causing pressure on nerves and creating that tremendous pain.\u201d<\/p>\n Sommers assured her followers that the neck surgery corrected the issue, and she was \u201con the mend\u201d and feeling much better.<\/p>\n Hamel, for his part, told Page Six<\/em> on Monday that his wife was still dealing with some side effects of her 2020 fall.<\/p>\n![\"Suzanne](\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Suzanne-Somers-Husband-Says-Shes-Taking-a-Step-Back-From-Her-Career-After-Another-Cancer-Battle2.jpg?w=700&quality=86&strip=all\")
