Very sad news today out of the entertainment industry:<\/p>\n
Paul Reubens, a veteran actor who will forever be remembered for creating and portraying the character of Pee-wee Herman, has passed away from cancer.<\/p>\n

(Getty)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cLast night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness,\u201d read a statement released Monday by the star\u2019s representative on Reubens\u2019 Instagram page.<\/p>\n
\u201cPaul bravely and privately fought cancer for years with his trademark tenacity and wit. <\/p>\n

(Getty)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nAfter taking part in improv troupe The Groundlings, Reubens debuted as Pee-wee Herman in the late 1970s, quickly earning himself a dedicated cult following. <\/p>\n
He continued to capture the heart of audiences with hit films such as Pee-wee\u2019s Big Adventure, Big Top Pee-wee and Pee-wee\u2019s Playhouse.<\/p>\n
In addition to a photo of Reubens in character as Herman, the Instagram slideshow on which the aforementioned statement was posted included an apology from the actor for choosing to keep his cancer diagnosis private over the last few years.<\/p>\n (Instagram)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cPlease accept my apology for not going public with what I\u2019ve been facing the past six years,\u201d the message read. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have always felt a huge amount of love and respect from my friends, fans and supporters. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you.\u201d<\/p>\n
The post concluded with a request from Reubens for any \u201cexpressions of sympathy\u201d to be made to Stand Up to Cancer or any dementia or Alzheimer\u2019s organization in honor of his late parents.<\/p>\nPaul Reubens takes part in SiriusXM\u2019s \u2018Town Hall\u2019 with Paul Reubens hosted by Dalton Ross at the SiriusXM Studios on March 23, 2016. The series 22 Emmy Awards during its run, with Reubens, personally, being nominated for an impressive 14 Emmy Awards. <\/p>\n
He ultimately won the honor on two occasions.<\/p>\n

(Getty)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nIn 1991, Reubens was arrested at a movie theater in Florida for indecent exposure. He later pleaded no contest.<\/p>\n
In 2004, Reubens pleaded guilty to a \u201cmisdemeanor obscenity charge involving photographs of minors engaged in sexual conduct were seized from him.\u201d<\/p>\n
He was sentenced to three years of probation.<\/p>\n
