Candace Bushnell<\/strong> <\/a>thinks And Just Like That<\/em><\/a> has found its footing in season 2 \u2014 and is a proud defender of the Che-Miranda story arc that has prompted so much online discourse.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m really enjoying this season,<\/span>\u201d Bushnell, 64, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> while promoting her\u00a0one-woman show, True Tales of Sex, Success and Sex and the City<\/em><\/a><\/span>. \u201cI think they had some kinks that they had to work out<\/a>. It had been a long time, obviously, since the original Sex in the City<\/em> ended.I\u2019m invested in the characters. I always want to see what\u2019s going to happen. I love the new characters. I think I\u2019m one of the few people who likes Che.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Bushnell\u2019s column in the New York Observer<\/em> served as the inspiration for the bestselling Sex and the City<\/em><\/a> anthology book series, which was later turned into a TV series by Darren Star<\/strong><\/a> that ran on HBO from 1998 to 2004. The show followed BFFs Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker<\/strong><\/a>), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon<\/strong><\/a>), Samantha (Kim Cattrall<\/strong><\/a>) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis<\/strong><\/a>) throughout their dating lives in the Big Apple. After six seasons, two subsequent movies and a prequel on The CW, the women of SATC<\/em> returned for the Max spinoff in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n While highly anticipated, And Just Like That<\/em> initially spawned intense debates<\/span> and criticism. In addition to fans wanting the character of Samantha to return to the breakfast table with her gal pals, some argued the characters didn\u2019t feel connected<\/span>\u00a0to their<\/span>\u00a0old selves \u2014 especially Cynthia Nixon\u2019s Miranda, who leaves husband Steve (David Eigenberg<\/strong><\/a>) in season 1 for nonbinary comedian Che, portrayed by Sara Ramirez<\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n While many have<\/span> reacted negatively to the character of Che\u2014 The Daily Beast<\/em><\/a> called them \u201cthe worst character on TV\u201d in January 2022 \u2014claiming their comedy isn\u2019t funny or that they are a negative influence on Miranda, Bushnell feels the journey for both Che and Miranda reads as authentic<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhat happened to Miranda is not an uncommon thing that happens in real life, which is something that you understand when you get to be a certain age,\u201d Bushnell explained of the character exploring her sexuality. \u201cI\u2019ve seen people like really change a lot when they\u2019re in their 50s or even 60s. They really take a new tack on<\/span>\u00a0their life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n While the debates surrounding the show may be heated, Bushnell, for her part, is just happy to see fans still so interested in the SATC<\/em> characters. \u201cI love the fact that other people are so invested in the show and that they really wanna discuss it. I think that\u2019s fantastic,\u201d she told Us<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n Bushnell<\/span>,\u00a0meanwhile, <\/span>is polishing her Manolos as she prepares to take over Canoe Place in Hampton Bays, New York, with her one-woman show next month. Bushnell is having a blast, but it wasn\u2019t something she expected would \u201csnowball\u201d in the way it has.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe [first] did it out of town at the Bucks County Playhouse <\/span>[in New Hope, Pennsylvania], which was amazing,\u201d she said.\u201c<\/b>And then I did it at the Darrell Roth Theater off-Broadway, which was incredible. I had costume changes. There was a staff, like people helped me dress. Like, it took two people for me to change my shoes and it was fantastic.\u201d Next, she\u2019ll be taking the performance on the road to placesincludingPalm Beach, Florida; Hartford, Connecticut; England; and South Africa later this year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The project was bred from the COVID-19 pandemic and features a whirlwind of remarkable personal stories<\/a> of fashion, literature and sex, of which Bushnell has plenty. On one of her \u201ccrazier\u201d romantic adventures, the author found herself dating both a 21-year-old and a 60-year-old in the same week.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cNobody tells you this is going to happen, that the age range is going to be 60 years<\/a>,\u201d she quipped.<\/p>\n For fans of the SATC<\/em> franchise, True Tales of Sex, Success and Sex and the City<\/em> is the perfect girls\u2019\u00a0<\/span>night out \u2014 and will feature plenty of stories and games surrounding the iconic HBO series.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a super fun game called Real or Not Real because everything that happened in the TV show<\/a> is a little better or worse than my real life,\u201d she told Us<\/em>. \u201cLike some of the guys who Carrie dates \u2026 I tell the story of how I came to New York and\u00a0<\/span>crazy things that happened to me. \u2026\u00a0And then how I created Sex in the City, how hard I worked to get there, why I invented Carrie Bradshaw and what happened to me afterward.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n True Tales of Sex, Success and Sex and the City<\/em> will take place at Canoe Place\u00a0in Hampton Bays, New York, on Thursday, August 17<\/span>,<\/sup>\u00a0at 8:00 p.m. ET.<\/span>
