Tesla is facing a new investigation with the California attorney general\u2019s office looking into safety issues with the company\u2019s Autopilot feature as well as its marketing practices, CNBC <\/em>reported<\/a> on Wednesday. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n The outlet was tipped off to the investigation by Tesla owner Greg Wester, who California Attorney General Rob Bonta\u2019s office called to ask about his August 2022 Federal Trade Commission complaint about his Tesla\u2019s \u201cphantom braking\u201d problem and what he believed to be misleading claims around the company\u2019s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n Tesla CEO Elon Musk\u2019s claims about his cars\u2019 fully driverless capabilities date back to 2016<\/a> when he said all new Tesla EVs would have the necessary hardware for it. In fact, the company has dragged its feet on it for so long that it\u2019s now giving drivers a \u201cone-time\u201d transfer<\/a> of their purchased upgrade to their next EV from the company.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n The company is being sued in California<\/a> by owners complaining about \u201cphantom braking\u201d \u2014 alleging Tesla\u2019s cars will abruptly brake while in Autopilot mode for seemingly no reason at all. In China, thousands of the company\u2019s cars are being recalled<\/a> for the same reason. And in the US, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has begun its own investigation<\/a> of the car\u2019s strange alleged braking behaviors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
