Instagram<\/a>, in which she also opened up about being sober for the last two years. \u201cI\u2019ve found that it\u2019s been very enlightening and has made me probably the happiest I\u2019ve ever been in my adult life.\u201d<\/p>\nAdore<\/strong> went on to recall her journey from \u201cdysphoria to euphoria\u201d and feeling like she born in the wrong body. She also talked about coming out as bisexual at age 12 before coming out as gay, and then revealing to her mom in high school that she was transgender.<\/p>\n\u201cI came out to my mom as transgender,\u201d Adore<\/strong> explained. \u201cI didn\u2019t know the words for that. I just told my mom \u2018I\u2019m not a boy, I\u2019m a girl. I want to live my life as a girl.\u2019 And I\u2019m so blessed to have a mom, especially in the subculture that I grew up in, that was so understanding. She was so understanding with everything and she said, \u2018Let\u2019s figure it out and get you through school and know how to put \u2018em up and fight when you need to.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\nHowever, when she auditioned for season seven of American Idol<\/em> in 2008, she decided to \u201csuppress everything.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cI threw it away, I burned it. I reinvented myself into something that was so uncomfortable,\u201d Adore<\/strong> recalled. \u201cIt was almost like a sacrifice in order to get what I wanted career-wise. It made sense to me at the time, as a 16-year-old, and then I got on the show, and that carried on in the story on Drag Race<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\nAfter being eliminated from Idol<\/em>, Adore<\/strong> went to living life in a \u201cmore femme-presenting\u201d way and fell in love with the transformational power of drag.<\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019m living in my world now, and it feels so empowering, and it feels so good,\u201d Adore<\/strong> said. \u201cIt feels so liberating.\u201d<\/p>\nAdore <\/strong>went on to reveal that she\u2019s going to be undergoing surgery in November, saying that she\u2019s \u201cprobably going to look a little different,\u201d before adding that she\u2019ll be taking a few months off at the beginning of 2024 for \u201csome major surgeries\u201d as well.<\/p>\n\u201cI am transgender,\u201d Adore <\/strong>concluded. \u201cI\u2019m going by she\/her.
