Though Oppenheimer<\/i><\/a> had the internet buzzing before it premiered, those NSFW sex scenes<\/a> between Cillian Murphy<\/b><\/a> and Florence Pugh<\/b><\/a> shifted the conversation. The film\u2019s leading man opened up about the public display of nudity he and Florence filmed, noting that he believed the shots made the movie stronger.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThose scenes were written deliberately,\u201d Cillian, 47, told The Sydney Morning Herald<\/i><\/a> shortly before the movie\u2019s Friday, July 21, release. \u201c[Director Christopher Nolan<\/b>] knew that those scenes would get the movie the rating that it got. And I think when you see it, it\u2019s so f\u2014king powerful. And they\u2019re not gratuitous. They\u2019re perfect. And Florence is just amazing.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n There are three major nude scenes between Cillian and Florence, 27, that has had moviegoers spiraling. The first is when their characters, Robert Oppenheimer and Jean Tatlock, start a relationship and have sex. Florence was filmed completely shirtless multiple times. The second scene is when the characters are sitting in chairs opposite from each other, with both actors sitting down naked. In the third nude moment, Emily Blunt<\/b><\/a>\u2019s character, Robert\u2019s wife, Kitty Oppenheimer, envisions her husband\u2019s affair with Jean while sitting in an interrogation room. Kitty sees Jean grinding on her husband\u2019s lap while Jean stares directly at her, taunting Kitty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This wasn\u2019t Florence\u2019s first time filming a sex scene. Nearly one year prior, her and Olivia Wilde<\/b><\/a>\u2019s drama-thriller, Don\u2019t Worry Darling<\/i><\/a>, premiered in September 2022. Since the film\u2019s trailers revealed a few raunchy scenes between Florence and Harry Styles<\/b><\/a>, Florence addressed the topic in an interview one month before the movie reached theaters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWhen it\u2019s reduced to your sex scenes, or to watch the most famous man in the world go down on someone, it\u2019s not why we do it,\u201d Florence explained. \u201cIt\u2019s not why I\u2019m in this industry. Obviously, the nature of hiring the most famous pop star in the world, you\u2019re going to have conversations like that. That\u2019s just not what I\u2019m going to be discussing because [this movie is] bigger and better than that.
