Nearly one year after Cassadee Pope<\/strong><\/a> called out Brittany Aldean<\/strong><\/a> for her transphobic comments<\/a>, she\u2019s taking aim at her husband, Jason Aldean<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI just feel like if you\u2019ve been called out THIS MANY TIMES about being problematic, maybe it\u2019s time to self-reflect? But what do I know\u00a0\ud83e\udd37\u200d\u2640\ufe0f<\/span>,\u201d the\u00a0Voice\u00a0<\/i>champ<\/a>, 33, tweeted<\/a> on Thursday, July 20.<\/p>\n Jason, 46, has recently been under fire for the lyric<\/a>s in his single \u201cTry That in a Small Town.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cCuss out a cop, spit in his face \/ Stomp on the flag and light it up \/ Yeah, ya think you\u2019re tough,\u201d he croons in one verse. \u201cWell, try that in a small town \/ See how far ya make it down the road \/ Around here, we take care of our own \/ You cross that line, it won\u2019t take long \/ For you to find out, I recommend you don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n The song, which also took seemingly aim<\/a> at gun control legislation and racial equality, quickly drew ire from social media users and other musicians<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201c@Jason_Aldean I\u2019m from a small town. Even people in small towns are sick of violence,\u201d Sheryl Crow<\/strong><\/a>, who hails from Missouri, tweeted on Tuesday, July 18. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing small-town or American about promoting violence. You should know that better than anyone having survived a mass shooting. This is not American or small town-like. It\u2019s just lame.\u201d<\/p>\n Several hours later on Tuesday, Jason responded to the criticism<\/a>\u00a0about his songwriting.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the past 24 hours, I have been accused of releasing a pro-lynching song (a song that has been out since May) and was subject to the comparison that I (direct quote) was not too pleased with the nationwide BLM protests. These references are not only meritless, but dangerous,\u201d he wrote via Twitter. \u201cThere is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it \u2014and there isn\u2019t a single video clip that isn\u2019t real news footage \u2014 and while I can try and respect others to have their own interpretation of a song with music \u2014 this one goes too far.\u201d<\/p>\n The country singer further noted that \u201cTry That In A Small Town\u201d was meant to represent the \u201cfeeling of a community\u201d<\/a> that he experiences growing up in Georgia \u201cwhere we took care of our neighbors, regardless of differences of background or belief.\u201d<\/p>\n Pope previously sparked a war of words with the Aldeans in August 2022<\/a> over Brittany\u2019s Instagram caption about outgrowing her childhood \u201ctomboy phase.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019d think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in\u00a0including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging,\u201d Pope tweeted at the time. \u201cBut instead, here we are, hearing someone\u00a0compare their \u2018tomboy phase\u2019\u00a0to someone wanting to transition. Real nice.\u201d<\/p>\n Brittany, 35, responded to the claims<\/a> made by Pope and Maren Morris<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 who also chimed in to condemn<\/a> her beliefs \u2014 via her Instagram Story at the time. (Jason stood by his wife\u2019s side<\/a> throughout the online drama.)<\/p>\n \u201cI\u00a0will always support my children\u00a0and do what I can to protect their innocence. The other day,\u00a0Memphis\u00a0wanted to be a dinosaur\u00a0and tomorrow\u00a0Navy\u00a0will want to be a cat, they\u2019re children,\u201d Brittany wrote that August, referring to her two children<\/a> with Jason. \u201cSome parents want to be accepted by society so badly that they\u2019re willing to\u00a0make life-altering decisions\u00a0for their children who aren\u2019t old enough to fully comprehend<\/a> the consequences of those actions.
