Jamie Lynn Spears<\/strong> is opening up\u2014not about her fractured relationship with sister Britney Spears<\/strong><\/a> or her time as a child actor at Nickelodeon,<\/a> but an unsuccessful audition for Twilight,<\/em><\/a> which began filming the year her popular teen series Zoey 101<\/em> went off the air.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Variety<\/em><\/a> completed before the actors strike,<\/a> Spears recalled drama surrounding the end of Zoey 101<\/em> after four seasons\u2014a decision reportedly made prior to her pregnancy, but announced alongside news that she was expecting a baby at age 16. \u201cI think, when I wrapped Zoey,<\/em> there were all these plans of things like, \u2018Let\u2019s go do movies.\u2019 I was reading scripts for things I was excited about,\u201d she told the outlet.<\/p>\n

One such script? \u201cI did read for Twilight,<\/em>\u201d Spears said. \u201cThis was before vampires had really made their mark. Now we all love to watch stories about vampires, but I literally was like, \u2018Vampires? Are you kidding me?\u2019 I remember reading it and going, \u2018Who is going to watch these vampires?\u2019 Boy, was I wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spears previously recalled this experience to Nylon,<\/em><\/a> revealing that she was unknowingly pregnant during the audition. \u201cI remember sitting in this little room, and I think Lily Collins<\/strong> was there, and I felt so sick. Little did I know, I was pregnant,\u201d she told the publication in 2020.<\/p>\n

Instead of appearing in Twilight,<\/em> Spears retreated from the spotlight to Mississippi, where she welcomed her daughter Maddie,<\/strong> now age 15. \u201cI was so concerned about bringing another human being into this world, but I needed to figure out who I was. And the press wasn\u2019t exactly very nice,\u201d Spears said. \u201cI wanted to get as far away from it as I could.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spears maintains that, though raising her daughter \u201cwas not something that I regret or held me back,\u201d she did harbor fears that her acting career wouldn\u2019t bounce back. \u201cI was like, \u2018What if it doesn\u2019t work out?\u2019 But it was something I always wanted,\u201d Spears said. \u201cI think I was afraid to admit it to myself because I didn\u2019t wanna give everybody the satisfaction of saying, \u2018It\u2019s not gonna happen for you. You had a baby, remember?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Since returning to the screen in 2020, Spears has appeared on Netflix\u2019s Sweet Magnolias,<\/em> which returns for a third season on July 20, and stars in Zoey 102<\/em>, a revival of her hit show that debuts via Paramount+ on July 27.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
