Bethenny Frankel<\/strong><\/a> thinks reality TV stars should join the picket lines amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHollywood is on strike, entertainers are fighting for residuals and no one will promote anything. Why isn\u2019t reality TV on strike? I got paid $7,250 for my first season of reality TV and people are still watching those episodes,\u201d Frankel, 52, said in an Instagram video<\/a> on Wednesday, July 19. \u201cWe\u2019ve always been the losers \u2026 During the last writers strike, we were providing all the entertainment and that\u2019s really when the gold rush of reality TV started.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The former Real Housewives of New York City<\/em><\/a> star noted that she herself has \u201cgenerated millions and millions of dollars in online advertising and impressions\u201d by being part of reality TV \u2014 but very little of her money was made from actually being featured on the Bravo franchise.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI have never made a single residual,\u201d she claimed. \u201cSo either I\u2019m missing something or we\u2019re getting screwed<\/a> too.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n It isn\u2019t just the Real Housewives<\/em> that Frankel thinks are recieving unfair treatment. Shows like The Bachelor<\/em><\/a> and Bachelorette<\/em><\/a> and Vanderpump Rules<\/em><\/a> were also on her list of neglected programs that paid its cast \u201cpeanuts\u201d despite making big imprints in the zeitgeist.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAnyone shooting a Bravo show should not be shooting until they get paid residuals for all the episodes they\u2019ve ever done or those episodes should be taken down,\u201d she continued. adding that stars of the early \u201800s hit The Hills<\/em><\/a> \u2014 including Lauren Conrad<\/strong><\/a> and Kristin Cavallari<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 \u201cdon\u2019t make a damn dollar\u201d from their time on the<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>MTV series even though it was \u201cgetting ratings that network television doesn\u2019t get\u201d and is \u201cstill being watched today.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s total bulls\u2014t,\u201d she argued. \u201cAnd I\u2019m going to get into this because it just occurred to me everyone is talking about actors when we don\u2019t get paid s-t<\/a>.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Frankel expanded on her thoughts in her Instagram caption, writing, \u201cI\u2019m well aware that unscripted talent aka \u2018reality stars\u2019 should have a union or simply be treated fairly and valued. \u2026 The mentality that we were nobodies and that these streamers and networks have given us platforms and that we can capitalize on them is also moronic.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n She continued: \u201cIf a network or streamer is currently making money on me telling someone to GO TO SLEEP then maybe I should be compensated. And maybe I\u2019m the one who needs to GET A HOBBY and maybe this will be it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Frankel\u2019s comments come on the heels of the\u00a0Screen Actors Guild \u2013 American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) facing a breakdown in negotiations<\/a> with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) over issues like residuals, fair pay and guidelines around the use of artificial intelligence.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n After failing to draw up a new contract approved by both organizations earlier this month, SAG\u2019s president, Fran Drescher<\/strong><\/a>, announced on July 14 that all members of the labor union were on strike until a fair deal was reached. Under strike guidelines, performers are no longer allowed to participate in or promote any struck work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
