Mikayla Nogueira<\/strong><\/a> is sharing some rare insight into what led to the end of her marriage.<\/p>\n

Back in February, the 28-year-old beauty TikToker announced that she and husband Cody Hawken<\/strong><\/a>, also 28, were getting divorced<\/a> after two and half years of marriage. At the time, she said their split was amicable and requested that fans leave Cody<\/strong>‘s past struggles with addiction “out of the conversation.” Their divorce was finalized in July<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While appearing on the Monday (October 5) episode of the On Purpose With Jay Shetty<\/em> podcast<\/a>, Mikayla <\/strong>broke down in tears as she revealed that Cody<\/strong> had relapsed multiple times during their marriage and said that his near-fatal overdose ultimately led their split.<\/p>\n

“When you’re with an addict, one of the things you worry about is, ‘Will you wake up and they’ll be there in the bed?’” Mikayla<\/strong> explained. “And one night, I woke up and he wasn’t in the bed.”<\/p>\n

She said she ended up finding Cody<\/strong> “completely hunched over, unconscious” in another room, prompting her to frantically calling 911. While the dispatcher advised her to slap Cody<\/strong> “as hard as you can in the face” as she waited for the ambulance to arrive, Mikayla<\/strong> said he remained unresponsive.<\/p>\n

“He just keeps falling over, drool and foam coming out of his mouth,” she tearfully recounted. “And he’s not waking up.”<\/p>\n

Though Cody<\/strong> “ended up being OK” after treatments from the paramedics, the incident deeply affected their relationship, with Mikayla<\/strong> noting, “It just traumatizes you.”<\/p>\n

“What I saw was a mental health decline,” she continued. “And with addicts, when you’re doing drugs and alcohol, that can shift your brain chemistry.”<\/p>\n

The Point of View (POV) Beauty<\/em> brand owner said that by the last year of marriage, she “didn’t know who Cody was anymore.”<\/p>\n

“He was a completely different person\u2014not who I married\u2014and that was really, really scary,” she explained. “Cody means well\u2014and he’s an amazing person and a really, really incredible guy\u2014but addiction can change people in a bad way.”<\/p>\n

Looking back, Mikayla<\/strong> believes she “failed as a partner to Cody, but he failed me too.”<\/p>\n

“Everything plays into that: my job, the career, the pressure, me never being home,” she admitted, explaining how she “got really wrapped up” in her career as it took off. “I was not the partner that Cody needed.”<\/p>\n

“I was too early in my career and too young to understand what marriage is. Cody was too early in his sobriety journey and also too young at the time to be looking for a partner,” Mikayla<\/strong> continued. “That is essentially what led to me deciding we needed to get a divorce.”<\/p>\n

Mikayla<\/strong> said that she doesn’t regret her relationship with Cody<\/strong>, whom she met on Tinder in 2020, noting that she was “really longing for companionship” amid her rise to fame, while he was “longing for someone to go through this new sobriety journey with” when they initially met.<\/p>\n

“We’re really grateful for our marriage because neither of us could have gone through that alone,” Mikayla<\/strong> shared. “Everything happens for a reason and I do believe that Cody was meant to be in my life for that period of time\u2014and I think he would agree that we were meant to be in each other’s lives for that period of time\u2014even if it wasn’t meant to be forever.”<\/p>\n

She added, “The amount we went through together taught us everything we need to take us into this next chapter of our lives.”<\/p>\n

Back in April, Mikayla<\/strong> went public with her new boyfriend<\/a>.<\/p>\n
