width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>The film was thoroughly trounced at the box office by Anne Hathaway\u2019s <em>Verity<\/em>, which drew in a solid $32 million (and which hopefully won\u2019t lead to a never-ending parade of lawsuits, like previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/08\/blake-lively-wanted-8-million-from-justin-baldoni-she-got-400000-instead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Colleen Hoover adaptations<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The bad news comes at a crucial time for Warner, which is currently in the throes of major merger drama and will officially be absorbed by Skydance (formerly Paramount) on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>So we guess David Ellison and company dodged any direct involvement with a project that\u2019s already being called the bomb of the year.<\/p>\n<p>But the top brass probably would\u2019ve preferred to ride a wave of positive press ahead of closing day.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, everyone involved is fabulously wealthy and therefore immune from anything resembling real consequences.<\/p>\n<p>As for Cruise, it\u2019s anyone\u2019s guess what lies ahead for the 62-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>There have been reports that he\u2019s planning to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2026\/09\/tom-cruise-taylor-swift-age-gap-romcom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">co-star with Taylor Swift<\/a> in an \u201cage gap rom-com,\u201d but that rumor seems to be a product of the internet hive mind.<\/p>\n<p>Following the Digger disaster, Tom will probably retreat to more familiar territory.
