First, do no harm, right? But commit to f****** what you’re doing, and utterly.”

The Social Reckoning star added: “I’m just there to commit utterly to serving the material.

“If some people feel that I’m taking it too seriously, or it changes the molecules in the room in a way that makes something uncomfortable, I guess that’s something that I don’t feel that I need to apologise for.

“I believe, and I think the directors that I work with all believe, that it’s in service of the material, and I personally think that a lot of the reactions to it are of a personal nature.”

Brian Cox, 80, previously criticised his Succession co-star Jeremy’s approach to method acting.

Jeremy played tortured Kendall Roy, the son of Brian’s foul-mouthed media mogul dad Logan Roy, in the HBO black comedy-drama series.

He fully immersed himself in the character by isolating himself from the rest of the cast to portray the alienation Kendall feels from his family.

In a February 2023 interview with Town and Country magazine, Brian said acting does not have to be a “big f****** religious experience” and described Jeremy as “gifted”, while suggesting that the actor should relax and forget about his method acting.

Asked about getting into character, Brian said: “It’s just there and is accessible, it’s not a big f****** religious experience.”

Discussing what it was like to work with Jeremy on Succession, Brian admitted: “Oh, it’s f****** annoying, don’t get me going on it… he’s f****** gifted, when you’ve got the gift, celebrate the gift. Go back to your trailer and have a hit of marijuana, you know?”

Jeremy later responded to Brian’s comments, saying the straight-talker has earned the right to say “whatever the f*** he wants” about his method acting.

Jeremy told British GQ: “Everyone’s entitled to have their feelings.
