The 64-year-old actor’s new satirical comedy opened to just $8 million from 3,321 theaters across North America, according to early estimates.<\/p>\n

Rival studios believe the final number could come in even lower at around $7.5 million when the official totals arrive, per Variety.<\/a><\/p>\n

The result is especially notable because Digger<\/em> reportedly cost between $160 million and $180 million to produce.<\/p>\n

Warner Bros. had initially hoped the movie would open between $18 million and $20 million, though box office experts reportedly believed a movie with that price tag would have needed an opening closer to $40 million.<\/p>\n

How Much Money Could Digger<\/em> Lose?<\/h3>\n

Digger<\/em> could reportedly lose<\/a> between $150 million and $200 million theatrically.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Variety<\/em> reports that Warner Bros. also spent another $100 million on the movie’s global marketing campaign.<\/p>\n

Sources familiar with similar movies estimated that Digger<\/em> would need around $350 million worldwide to break even, while a Warner Bros. spokesperson pushed back on that figure and placed the break-even point at around $300 million. <\/p>\n

The movie also struggled internationally, earning $12 million from 73 markets for a worldwide opening of $20 million. <\/p>\n
