Gypsy Rose Blanchard<\/strong><\/a> is speaking out about the death of Ken Urker<\/strong><\/a>, her on-again\/off-again partner.<\/p>\n

Ken<\/strong> was found dead at his home in Louisiana on Thursday (October 1), which happened to be his 34th birthday. His presumed cause of death is a suspected overdose – and they don’t know if it was intentional or not.<\/p>\n

Now, Gypsy Rose<\/strong> is asking fans to sign a petition for a new law.<\/p>\n

Gypsy Rose<\/strong> took to Instagram <\/a>to address this cause.<\/p>\n

I only have my daughter and my voice. In honor of Ken, I am asking for your support for Kenan\u2019s Law. <\/p>\n

Before his passing, Ken experienced an overwhelming amount of online scrutiny and what we believed crossed the line into targeted harassment and cyberbullying. Reports were made across multiple platforms, and far too often, the response was simply: \u201cNo violation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kenan\u2019s Law is about changing the way social-media platforms handle repeated reports of harassment. One post viewed alone may not tell the whole story\u2014but hundreds of posts, videos and comments directed at one person can reveal a pattern that deserves meaningful review.<\/p>\n

This is not about silencing criticism or taking away anyone\u2019s freedom of speech. Public figures can and should be criticized. But public figures are still human beings, and fame should never erase someone\u2019s humanity.<\/p>\n

Ken\u2019s passing has made me determined to turn pain into purpose. I cannot change what happened, but I can advocate for a better system for the next person who feels like no one is listening.<\/p>\n

My name is Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, and I am asking you to stand with me in supporting Kenan\u2019s Law, a proposed law aimed at changing how major social-media platforms respond when someone repeatedly reports targeted online harassment and cyberbullying.<\/p>\n

I am doing this in memory of Kenan Urker the father of my daughter.<\/p>\n

Ken recently died following a suspected overdose.  At this time, we do not know whether the overdose was intentional, and I will not speculate about circumstances that have not been determined.<\/p>\n

What I can speak about is what happened before his death.<\/p>\n

We Reported It. Again and Again.<\/p>\n

Ken was a public figure and experienced an enormous amount of public scrutiny.<\/p>\n

Across platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Reddit, there was extensive content about him that we believed crossed the line from criticism into targeted harassment and cyberbullying.<\/p>\n

Ken made reports.<\/p>\n

I made reports.<\/p>\n

Videos were reported. Comments were reported. Posts were reported.<\/p>\n

And many times, the answer we received was:<\/p>\n

\u201cNo violation.\u201d<\/p>\n

That is the problem I want to change.<\/p>\n

Social-media platforms often evaluate individual pieces of content separately. One video gets reviewed. One comment gets reviewed. One post gets reviewed.<\/p>\n

But harassment doesn\u2019t always happen in one post.<\/p>\n

Sometimes it is dozens, hundreds, or thousands of pieces of content directed toward the same human being over an extended period.<\/p>\n

When every report is considered individually, who is looking at the whole picture?<\/p>\n

Public Figures Are Still Human Beings<\/p>\n

I understand that public figures are subject to criticism.<\/p>\n

Kenan\u2019s Law would not prevent people from criticizing public figures.<\/p>\n

People have the right to disagree with us. They have the right to dislike us. They have the right to discuss our actions and express opinions we may find hurtful or offensive.<\/p>\n

Free speech matters.<\/p>\n

But there must also be a distinction between criticism about someone and a sustained pattern of conduct that may violate harassment or safety policies.<\/p>\n

Being a public figure does not mean you stop being human.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

What is Kenan’s Law?<\/h3>\n

Gypsy-Rose<\/strong> shared, “Kenan\u2019s Law is about creating a better process for identifying patterns. Because one post may not tell the story. One video may not tell the story. One comment may not tell the story. But when someone has repeatedly reported content directed toward them, the system should be capable of asking: ‘What is happening to this person across all of these reports?’”<\/p>\n

“By signing this petition, you are asking lawmakers to seriously consider Kenan\u2019s Law \u2014 the Online Harassment Reporting and Accountability Act and establish stronger procedures for recognizing patterns of reported online harassment while protecting freedom of speech,” the petition reads.<\/p>\n

After his passing, Gypsy Rose<\/strong> said he was her \u201cgreatest love story,\u201d<\/a> and said before his death, he faced \u201crelentless cyberbullying\u201d and endured an \u201cunimaginable level of public scrutiny.\u201d She said the \u201ccruelty directed toward him was something no human being should have to endure\u201d and it had a \u201cprofound impact\u201d on him.<\/p>\n
