Filmmaker Aaron Sorkin<\/strong><\/a> is opening up more about Jesse Eisenberg<\/strong><\/a> not returning for The Social Reckoning<\/strong><\/a><\/em>. <\/p>\n

The actor first portrayed Mark Zuckerberg<\/strong><\/a> in the 2010 film, The Social Network<\/em>, but opted not to return for the sequel several years later. Jeremy Strong<\/strong><\/a> has taken his place as the Meta CEO for The Social Reckoning<\/em>.<\/p>\n

While Aaron<\/strong> previously said Jesse<\/strong> didn’t want to play Mark<\/strong> again<\/a>, he said in a new interview that he really tried to get the actor to return, including a huge pay increase!<\/p>\n

“I knew what the studio was offering him to do it, but money does not motivate Jesse<\/strong>. It\u2019s infuriating,\u201d Aaron<\/strong> told Entertainment Weekly<\/a><\/em> with a laugh. \u201cIf anything, money is a disincentive for him. It\u2019s admirable. He\u2019s very concerned about raising his kids with too much money.\u201d<\/p>\n

After he knew Jesse<\/strong> wouldn’t return with a pay bump, he said he “wrote a list of the things he could” do with that money, including producing “X number of Broadway plays of his own. He still turned it down. <\/p>\n

While Aaron<\/strong> was working on the script for The Social Reckoning<\/em>, he didn’t tell many people that he was, and shortly before being done, he bumped into Jesse <\/strong>at a party “and said, ‘I\u2019m gonna be sending you something in a couple of weeks.\u2019 And he smiled and nodded, and I sent it to him. It never occurred to me that he wouldn\u2019t wanna do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Oscar-winning screenwriter spent a three-day weekend trying to convince the actor to sign on. <\/p>\n

“This is the only time I\u2019ve written myself an outline. I don\u2019t do it for the movies, but I did it for my conversations with Jesse<\/strong>,\u201d he recalled. \u201cIt was arguments for why he should do it. They included, \u2018We already know you\u2019re gonna be great because you were already once.\u2019 You know, \u2018Here are the great moments that you\u2019re gonna get to play in the movie.\u2019 And I laid it out for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was also asked if Jesse<\/strong> ever got close to saying yes. <\/p>\n

“I do remember Jesse<\/strong> saying at one point during the third or fourth back and forth, \u2018You have come closer to changing my mind than I thought you were going to.\u2019 So I was pleased about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Jesse<\/strong> liked the script, Aaron<\/strong> reiterated his past point that he didn’t want to be associated with playing Mark<\/strong> again. <\/p>\n

“He just doesn\u2019t like being conflated with Mark Zuckerberg<\/strong> anymore,\u201d Aaron<\/strong> said. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t like that he kinda resembles the guy physically; that role is probably what he\u2019s most known for.\u201d<\/p>\n
