During a recent Q&A at Fan Expo Dallas, Nicholas Cage said he misses when movies in the MCU prioritized story over action. \u201cIt started out, in my view, terrific. Some of the early stories were marvelous,\u201d Cage told the crowd. \u201cThe way that they wove all the threads together and told the different character stories and backstories.\u201d<\/p>\n
He didn’t specify which earlier MCU films he thought were \u201cmarvelous,\u201d but says that he\u2019s noticed a shift in recent years. \u201cLately \u2014 I do say this with love \u2014 when I see these 50-plus and otherwise intelligent and remarkably gifted thespians putting on these ridiculous outfits and getting ready for the fight \u2014 let\u2019s face it, it\u2019s all cutting to the fight \u2014 it\u2019s hard for me not to be reminded that the MCU is becoming a well-funded and glorified WWE,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Cage recently played the title character in Prime Video\u2019s Spider-Noir<\/i>, which was canceled after one season. \u201cOne of the things I liked about Spider-Noir was it wasn\u2019t cut into the fight. It was a detective story,\u201d Cage told the audience at the fan convention. \u201cThere was a mystery there. And I would like to see it [MCU] get back to telling the stories and not just cutting to the wrestling match.\u201d<\/p>\n
