John Steinbeck\u2019s 1952 novel was first adapted as a feature film starring James Dean<\/strong> and Jo Van Fleet<\/strong>, who won an Oscar for playing Cathy. That version only adapted the last third of Steinbeck\u2019s epic book, but this superb new iteration from writer\/director Zoe Kazan<\/strong><\/a> (the granddaughter of Elia Kazan<\/strong>, who directed the \u201855 film) is mostly faithful to the original story. And what a story! Across seven episodes, Kazan chronicles the rise and fall of a family from the Civil War to World War I. A Western, a family drama and a tragic romance, East of Eden<\/em>\u2019s scope is as wide as its ambitions, resulting in Netflix\u2019s best 2026 shows yet. It also contains one of Pugh\u2019s best performances ever; she makes Cathy, one of the nastiest characters in 20th-century American literature, palatable, if not quite sympathetic.<\/p>\nEast of Eden<\/em> is streaming on Netflix. But what seems like an open-and-shut divorce case becomes much more complicated when it\u2019s quickly revealed that Carla orchestrated the affair and the incriminating evidence to get out of her marriage with as much money as possible.<\/p>\nIs Carla, then, the villain? No, but she\u2019s no hero either, and neither is Martin of the law firms they hire to handle their increasingly nasty divorce case. War, a new anthology series that takes a look at different fictional law cases in each season, intentionally blurs the moral lines so it\u2019s hard to know who to root for \u2014 and who is telling the truth. That\u2019s also the show\u2019s main point, and the pleasure of watching War is seeing its characters transform into whoever they need to be to get what they want. The show\u2019s characters are great to watch, but you\u2019d never, ever want to meet them in real life.<\/p>\n

Kill Jackie is a pulp crime series that is more comic book than Michael Mann. It also steals \u201cborrows\u201d liberally from Kill Bill, right down to its title. Still, it\u2019s fun seeing Zeta-Jones wearing haute couture while gunning down an assortment of weirdo assassins in exotic places. Is Kill Jackie a guilty pleasure? If it is, then, well, guilty as charged.<\/p>\n

Clive is in his fifties, straight and unhappily married, and the father of two grown sons, one of whom is in the closet and the other is secretly an OnlyFans influencer who films content in his bedroom. When a nearly-nude Leo is locked out of his house after a hookup steals his laptop, he has no choice but to seek help from Clive, who gives him a spare key to his flat in case he needs a place to crash. Is this the start of a beautiful yet unlikely friendship?<\/p>\nIn another time and place, sure, but this is Great Britain in 2026, and creator Russell T. Davies<\/strong> argues it\u2019s more difficult than ever for a gay man and a straight man to relate to one another. Brexit, the rise of the Reform Party, and the manosphere have rolled back some of the progress made in the last 25 years, which is why some simple misunderstandings between Leo and Clive quickly balloon into an all-out war. Cumming is getting his pop-culture flowers right now as the campy host of The Traitors<\/em><\/a>, but Tip Toe shows he\u2019s also a fine actor who can still charm you one minute and break your heart the next.
