Pete Davidson<\/strong><\/a> is recalling the moment he hit rock bottom in 2023, before his mother\u2019s fear prompted going to rehab.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was K [ketamine]. I was getting liquid and cooking it,\u201d Davidson, 32, told Variety<\/em><\/a> on Wednesday, September 30, of the drugs he was taking during that dark period, which came after he played himself on the autobiographical Peacock series Bupkis<\/em><\/a>. \u201cAnd I would do acid and shrooms and whippets and smoke weed all day and eat pills every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor \u2014 who exited Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a>, which he said provided structure and routine, one year prior \u2014 admitted that while starring on Bupkis<\/em> he was \u201cconstantly living\u201d in his \u201cown crap\u201d and past trauma, so he turned to drugs to numb the pain.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt got scary because I didn\u2019t feel high,\u201d Davidson recalled of his daily drug use. \u201cI felt high when I wasn\u2019t doing it, so I was like, this is a huge problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

After nearly a decade of public struggles with addiction and multiple rehab stints, the former Saturday Night Live star says he\u2019s finally in the best place he\u2019s ever been \u2014\u00a0and it all started with one brutally honest call from his [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Pete, who has been open about losing his firefighter father, Scott Davidson<\/strong>, during the deadly September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks<\/a> on New York City, said it was an emotional call with his mother, Amy Davidson<\/strong>, that made him want to get clean.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe told me her biggest fear was waking up one day to see on the news that something bad had happened to me,\u201d the comedian remembered. \u201cI reached a point where I couldn\u2019t do that to her anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pete took his mom\u2019s worries to heart, walked away from season 2 of Bupkis<\/em><\/a> and checked himself into rehab.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was part of the problem of what I hated the most, which was the invasiveness around my personal life,\u201d he explained. \u201cI was just lobbing it up and continuing the narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pete noted that while his mom was the catalyst to his rehab stay, he was ready to make a change<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I turned 30 and I was there, it was a real low point. Nothing much was going on with my career and I was like, \u2018This f***in\u2019 sucks. I can\u2019t do it anymore,\u2019\u201d he said of his inspiration to get sober for himself. \u201cAnd it can\u2019t be for anyone or for a job. You really have to want it, and when you\u2019re done, you\u2019re done.\u201d<\/p>\n

The How to Rob a Bank<\/em> star is currently sober aside from \u201cfour beers a year.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t f*** with drugs anymore. It\u2019s been two or three years from doing really hard stuff and about a year or more from weed,\u201d Pete shared. \u201cWeirdly, the hardest thing to stop was weed.\u201d<\/p>\n

He pointed to fatherhood as one of his biggest motivations for maintaining his sobriety, saying it\u2019s \u201ceasy\u201d to stay away from drugs \u201cbecause I have a kid.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnytime there\u2019s ever a thought, I look at my phone background and go, \u2018Oh yeah, no,\u2019\u201d Pete revealed, referring to his daughter, Scottie, 9 months, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
