Ben Affleck<\/strong><\/a> is speaking out publicly for the first time following the deaths of both his parents.<\/p>\n

In an interview from earlier this month, the 54-year-old Oscar-winning actor’s brother Casey Affleck<\/strong><\/a> revealed that their father Tim Affleck<\/strong> died earlier this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

News of Tim<\/strong>‘s passing comes after it was revealed earlier this summer that Casey<\/strong> and the 54-year-old Gone Girl<\/em> actor’s mother died at the age of 83 <\/a>on June 2, 2026. Her death certificate revealed<\/a> that Chris Anne<\/strong> passed away while \u201cvisiting\u201d at Ben<\/strong>\u2018s home.<\/p>\n

Chris Anne<\/strong> died from cardiopulmonary arrest and a contributing factor was pancreatic cancer, which she had been battling for several months.<\/p>\n

While appearing on the September 30 episode of Animals<\/em> co-star Kerry Washington<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s podcast Street You Grew Up On<\/em><\/a>, Ben <\/strong>addressed the deaths of both of his parents.<\/p>\n

“My parents just died. Both of them. In April, and in June,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s sort of a big thing, and it\u2019s caused me to start thinking about my own childhood in ways that has been a little bit different.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ben<\/strong> went on to say that after his mother’s death, he learned to see her life in a different life.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve certainly learned to even more deeply appreciate my mom,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd really value and see what she did and what the sacrifice and commitment that she made and how complete it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Justice League<\/em> actor explained that he began reading letters that his mother wrote to his grandparents from her early adulthood.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis sounds like a crazy thing to say, but it was really weird for me to read these letters, first of all as this young woman, full of life and ambition and dreams and not sure, \u2018Oh, maybe I\u2019ll be a social worker, maybe I\u2019ll be a teacher, there\u2019s these protests,\u2019\u201d Ben<\/strong> explained. \u201cBut of course, the thing that struck me was: This has nothing to do with me. This woman had her own whole life for 30 years that had zero to do with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said that he was moved by how his mother prioritized him and his family, despite her own personal interests and goals.<\/p>\n

“It was so interesting to me because all I knew was a person who just made me and my brother the absolute most important center of her life,\u201d Ben<\/strong> said. \u201cAnd it really struck me that she was gorgeous and smart and thoughtful and passionate, and I just thought, \u2018This woman\u2019s amazing. She can do anything.\u2019 And there she was, my whole life.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cShe was a teacher, she worked really hard. She taught elementary school in public school. She taught 5th and 6th grade. She\u2019d finish at 2:30, but she never came home until about 5:30 or 6. She worked really hard. And then she came home and did everything, you know? And there I was, probably a pain in the ass, outside, didn\u2019t wanna come in, complaining, whatever it was, hard to wrangle, me and my brother.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Argo<\/em> director also admitted that his parents’ failed marriage made him “sad” for his mom.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe should have happiness and love,\u201d he shared. \u201c[At] the time that we\u2019re talking about, my dad was kind of in bad shape and sort of getting worse, he didn\u2019t get a job, he drank too much, all that kind of stuff, angry, resentful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ben<\/strong>‘s parents divorced in 1984 when he was around 11.<\/p>\n

He went on to say that \u201ca lot of friction\u201d between his parents, admitting he was relieved when they told him they were getting divorced.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said whatever it was, \u2018We\u2019re getting divorced,\u2019\u201d Ben<\/strong> recalled. \u201cAnd I remember, I was 11 years old, I remember thinking, \u2018I should try to look sad.\u2019 That\u2019s what I thought. I was like, \u2018Can I try to cry? Should I be sad?\u2019 But I was so happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you didn’t see, Casey<\/strong>, 51, talked about dedicating his new movie to his parents<\/a>.<\/p>\n
