Wynonna Judd<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about where she stands with her sister, actress Ashley Judd.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

In her People<\/em><\/a> cover story published on Wednesday, September 30, Wynonna, 62, shared that Ashley, 58, hasn\u2019t heard her upcoming album, The Hard Truth<\/em>, which drops on Friday, October 2.<\/p>\n

Wynonna explained that the sisters aren\u2019t \u201cconnected\u201d at the moment<\/a>, adding, \u201cWe\u2019re taking a break, which all families can relate to. She\u2019s doing her thing, and I\u2019m doing mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wynonna and Ashley are the daughters of the late Naomi Judd<\/strong>, who died by suicide in 2022 at age 76. Naomi welcomed Wynonna with ex-boyfriend Charles Jordan<\/strong> in 1964 before marrying Michael<\/strong> Ciminella<\/strong> and welcoming Ashley in 1968. Naomi and Ciminella divorced in 1972. (Wynonna learned of her biological father<\/a> much later in life and did not connect with him before his death in 2000.)<\/p>\n

After splitting from Jordan, Naomi wed Michael Ciminella. The couple expanded their family with daughter Ashley Judd in April 1968. Naomi and Ciminella divorced in 1972. On her upcoming album, Wynonna explores her \u201ccomplicated\u201d feelings toward Naomi and sings on one track: \u201cI love you, I need you, I hate you some days.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like this is the most honest and vulnerable I\u2019ve ever been,\u201d Wynonna told the magazine. \u201cIt\u2019s there for everyone to hear. So there are some days I think, \u2018Oh my God, what have I done?\u2019 And then other days I think, \u2018There comes a point in your life when you are ready to tell your testimony.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere on the album, Wynonna refers to Naomi as \u201ca mama with no shame.\u201d When asked whether she could have recorded these songs if her mom were still alive, Wynonna replied, \u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I would\u2019ve been more determined. It\u2019s my story, and it\u2019s my feelings,\u201d she said. \u201cI think it would be very painful for her. Very painful. But I also know that she knows me, that I\u2019m so honest and so up-front.\u201d<\/p>\n
