In niche Canadian news, Hockey Night in Canada will return after all on CBC this winter \u2014 this time featuring the Professional Women’s Hockey League. <\/p>\n
Hockey Night in Canada had been a fixture on Canadian’s public broadcaster going back to the 1950s; CBC had also been doing radio broadcasts of Saturday night men’s hockey games since the 1920s. Earlier this year, it was announced that the longstanding national tradition would come to an end<\/a> as NHL broadcaster Rogers Media stated they “could not come to a licensing agreement” with CBC (i.e. the media giant wanted more money from the CBC). <\/p>\n
Today, CBC announced HNIC will return for a 90th season this year after all, but will feature PWHL games instead. This means all Canadians will be able to watch\/stream PWHL games for free, keeping a piece of Canadian culture alive and giving a massive platform to the growing league. The PWHL will launch its full schedule October 2, before the season kicks off December 5. <\/p>\n
