Home Improvement<\/em><\/a> star Taran Noah Smith<\/strong> is looking back on TV mom Patricia Richardson<\/strong>\u2019s exit from the beloved sitcom.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe had just given birth to twins, and she had one older kid who was about my age. And she really brought a lot more of a realistic mom [energy],\u201d Smith, 42, said during a resurfaced episode of \u201cOutgrown\u201d<\/a> podcast episode. \u201cShe fought throughout the whole show to keep the show more realistic and tell the writers, \u2018a mother would never say this\u2019 and get them to change it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith starred on Home Improvement<\/em><\/a> as Mark, the youngest member of the Taylor family. In addition to Smith and Richardson, 75, who portrayed matriarch Jill Taylor, the cast included Tim Allen<\/strong> as patriarch Tim, Zachery Ty Bryan<\/strong> as Brad and Johnathan Taylor Thomas<\/strong> as Randy.<\/p>\n

Home Improvement<\/em> ran for eight seasons from 1991 to 1998. However, Smith claimed that things started to change behind the scenes after a new group of writers and producers were brought in after \u201cthe first couple of seasons.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPatricia Richardson is shooting down former costar Tim Allen\u2018s campaign for the chance of a Home Improvement reboot with the original cast, including Jonathan Taylor Thomas. During an appearance on the Friday, March 29, episode of the \u201cBack to the Best\u201d podcast, Richardson, 73, explained why getting the OG cast back together would never work, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe original creators only did the show for the first couple of seasons and then they moved on. They brought in a whole other group of writers\/producers,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd of those guys, very few of them had kids and the show started to go in a different direction \u2026 It was really Pat, the mom, who fought the good fight to make it more realistic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith claimed that the new staff would write lines that felt \u201cout of character\u201d just to \u201cset up a joke.\u201d He added that Allen, 73, didn\u2019t want to rock the boat when it came to working with the writing staff while Richardson still wanted the story to be believable.<\/p>\n

\u201cTim was always more hands off and not wanting to be tyrannical which meant that [there] was a lot more on Pat to push,\u201d he claimed. \u201cThat\u2019s one of the reasons why the show ended up eventually ending. She was tired of it and having to fight to make it realistic all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith also acknowledged the pay discrepancies<\/a> between Allen and Richardson were another reason why she declined to return for a ninth season.<\/p>\n
