Unfortunately, Jenny Slatten has also largely lost the ability to speak comfortably.<\/p>\n
\u201cJenny hardly speaks now as it hurts,\u201d the update acknowledged. <\/p>\n
\u201cSumit speaks more for her,\u201d Minincleri added, \u201cand is the main spokesperson for his wife.\u201d<\/p>\n
The update affirmed: \u201cSumit is Jenny\u2019s main caregiver and doing a great job each day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jenny and Sumit turned both of their lives upside down to be together. It is no surprise that they remain loving spouses despite everything.<\/p>\n
\nThe good news is that, as of Monday, September 28, the GoFundMe has raised over $126,000. That\u2019s progress.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, Jenny has been seeing neurologists and speech therapists.<\/p>\n
Minincleri\u2019s update says that she will soon begin acupuncture.<\/p>\n
Acupuncture is sometimes seen as a luxury \u201cwellness\u201d procedure in the US. In parts of Asia, including India, it is more common. (Reminder that it was popularized in the US after James Reston underwent it following an emergency appendectomy during Nixon\u2019s trip to China.)<\/p>\n
No treatment, pharmaceutical or holistic, can cure ALS. But there are treatments to help Jenny\u2019s quality of life and to slow the disease\u2019s progression.<\/p>\n
