Taylor Swift<\/strong><\/a> is opening up about the meaning behind her new song.<\/p>\n

At midnight on Friday (September 25), the 36-year-old Grammy-winning singer released The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, which featured four new songs, including her latest single “Patient Zero.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

While appearing on the U.K.\u2019s Capital FM<\/a> hours later, Taylor<\/strong> shared what inspired her to write the song.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe story behind me writing the song \u2018Patient Zero\u2019 is that I was hanging out with a bunch of friends, and one of my friends told us that she had been reached out to by the new girlfriend of an ex of hers, asking for guidance on if she had had the same experiences with this guy,\u201d Taylor<\/strong> recalled.<\/p>\n

According to the singer, “everyone” in the group immediately started saying, like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019ve been through that too,\u2019 and telling the stories of when this kind of reach out had happened for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor<\/strong> noted that she was “really proud” that she “got to explore” a scenario like this in a song.<\/p>\n

“I thought to myself, \u2018If this has happened to all of us, it\u2019s such an interesting kind of angle on humanity and on relationships, and I wonder if I could write something from the perspective of getting this phone call, and really only from the perspective and the side of the phone call of the ex who\u2019s been through it before,’” she explained.<\/p>\n
