Ryan Murphy has written a script for more Glee<\/p>\n
The 60-year-old co-creator of the beloved musical series, which originally aired from 2009 to 2015, has given a massive update on a potential return after working on a script with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan.<\/p>\n
He told Entertainment Tonight: “Well, funny you ask, because I just finished the script an hour ago.<\/p>\n
“We have a script. Brad, Ian and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something.\u201d<\/p>\n
\t\t\t<\/p>\n
Ryan, who is returning this week with season 13 of American Horror Story, revealed he has been in touch with some original Glee cast members about reprising their roles.<\/p>\n
\nHe added: “I\u2019ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members, and it\u2019s very sweet. They\u2019ve all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHowever, the writer and producer noted that “nobody’s read” the script yet, and a revival is far from confirmed.<\/p>\n
\nHe explained: \u201cNobody\u2019s read it, so I don\u2019t know; we\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n
\n“I mean, I vowed to myself that I wanted to write a couple of them to see what people think, particularly the cast, cause we were very close when we were making it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe show was set at the fictional William McKinley High School, and followed members of a glee club.<\/p>\n
\nThe cast featured the likes of Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Kevin McHale and Darren Criss.<\/p>\n
\nBack in July, Ryan revealed he was considering making more Glee after “so many young people” had discovered the show in recent years.<\/p>\n
\nHe added: “My nostalgia and love for that show is enough that I\u2019m like, \u2018Well, maybe people would like to see a new incarnation of that in some capacity.’ “<\/p>\n
\nThis isn’t the first time the idea of a Glee reboot has been floated by those in charge. <\/p>\n
\nCo-creator Brad told The Hollywood Reporter back in 2024: \u201cIs there a way to tell that story in a more modern way?<\/p>\n
\n\u201cSo much of what\u00a0Glee\u00a0was about was really this transition from an old way of looking at representation to a new way.<\/p>\n
\n“I\u2019d never say no, but I wonder what the point would be \u2014 except it\u2019d be a moneymaker.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, former Fox TV chief Dana Walden previously opened up about how she had to “teach” fans to embrace Glee.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking as she accepted the International Emmy Founders Award in November 2025, Dana said: “It wasn\u2019t the worst testing pilot in history \u2013 trust me \u2014 but it also didn\u2019t get the reaction it deserved.<\/p>\n
\n“I learned two lessons that changed the way I work with creators. First, through Ryan\u2019s eyes, I got to understand how harsh criticism feels to a creator \u2014 particularly if the story is personal.<\/p>\n
\n“And, second, the feedback wasn\u2019t really for him \u2013 it was for the executives.<\/p>\n
\n“It was going to be our job to protect Glee and teach an audience how to understand something different and original.\u201d<\/p>\n
