Joey King<\/strong><\/a> is paying no mind to the haters.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s been just, like, a feeling that comes with a public perception and how that makes you feel,\u201d King, 27, said during the Monday, September 21, episode of Dax Shepard<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cArmchair Expert\u201d podcast while discussing criticism she has received throughout her career.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf it should make you feel anything ever, especially how accessible it is to see what everyone says about you online,\u201d she continued. \u201cBut now I\u2019m just like, \u2018Wait a minute, good or bad, whether they\u2019re saying really nice things, really mean things, really untrue things about my beliefs, whatever they\u2019re saying, my real life is great.\u2019 It doesn\u2019t permeate that at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Act<\/em> alum added, \u201cI still get hired to do roles I love. I still have a really nice life at home. Then I guess it really doesn\u2019t permeate my space. It\u2019s true, it doesn\u2019t. So what does it matter?\u201d<\/p>\n

King recently faced backlash for her casting in Practical Magic 2<\/em> as Kylie Owens, the role originated by Evan Rachel Wood<\/strong> in the 1998 cult classic film. Additionally, the role of Antonia Owens, originally played by Alexandra Artrip<\/strong>, went to Maisie Williams<\/strong> in the sequel.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the first movie, Evan Rachel Wood played Kylie, who\u2019s the character that I\u2019m playing,\u201d King said on Monday. \u201cAnd I think initially it was, like, very hard for audiences to kind of imagine that she and the original young woman who played Antonia weren\u2019t part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Explaining the decision to recast the characters, King pointed out that the sequel follows \u201ca very specific kind of age story line of where the girls are\u201d and was adapted from the second book in Alice Hoffman<\/strong>\u2019s Practical Magic<\/em> series, called Book of Magic.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the books, the girls in the Book of Magic, they\u2019re of a certain age. They\u2019re just out of college,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n

King recalled having a pleasant chat with Wood, 38, ahead of Practical Magic 2<\/em>\u2019s premiere.<\/p>\n

\u201cLuckily, she wished me well,\u201d the Kissing Booth<\/em> star noted. \u201cShe said in an interview recently, I saw where she was like, \u2018I wish Joey the best.\u2019 And so I reached out to her, and it was so sweet \u2026 because everyone was saying things online. And then I was like, \u2018Well, what if we just chatted?\u2019 And so that was really nice because it\u2019s just so noisy when people make their mind up about how to behave, and they feel something about someone or a casting choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Days before the sequel\u2019s September 11 premiere, Wood threw shade at the cast<\/a> via her Instagram Stories \u2014 but she praised King.<\/p>\n
