Taylor Swift is getting an inaugural MTV Video Music Awards<\/p>\n
The AGE-year-old pop megastar, who has the most awards in VMA history with 30 thus far, has directed all her recent music videos, and has won Best Director four times at the annual ceremony.<\/p>\n
The news was announced on Monday (21.09.26) by CBS and MTV, who said the new award pays tribute to artists “whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling”.<\/p>\n
The prize also \u201ccelebrates a sustained and influential body of work from artists who have pushed creative boundaries and developed a clear directorial voice”.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Taylor has helmed her videos for the likes of The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite, All Too Well: The Short Film, Anti-Hero, Lavender Haze and more.<\/p>\n
\nAlthough it’s not been confirmed that the singer will be at the ceremony in person on September 27, it’s expected she will be there to collect the trophy.<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, fans will be wondering if Taylor will use the ceremony to announced her next record.<\/p>\n
\nBack in 2022, she used her acceptance speech to unveil her Midnights record, leading to fans speculating there could be a repeat this year.<\/p>\n
\nOn September 27, Taylor is nominated for another nine awards, including Artist of the Year, and Video of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia.<\/p>\n
\nThe track is also in the running for the Best Pop, Best Editing, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Choreography and Best Visual Effects.<\/p>\n
\nThe Life of a Showgirl is on the shortlist for Best Album, while I Knew It, I Knew You is nominated for Song of Summer, and Opalite is up for Best Direction.<\/p>\n
\nTaylor previously explained her decision to start sitting in the director’s chair for her videos.<\/p>\n
\nReflecting on her 2019 video for The Man, she told Variety: \u201cIt actually came out of necessity.<\/p>\n
\n“I was writing my videos for years and I had a video that was a very specific concept I had written which was that I wanted to be prosthetically turned into a man and live my life as a man and I wanted a female director to direct it and the few that I reached out to were fortunately booked.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nShe found the experience “more fulfilling” than she “ever could imagine”, and she has directing over 15 to date.<\/p>\n
\nShe added: “I think this just grew out of a natural extension of that storytelling and I don\u2019t think I ever necessarily thought it would be something I would be allowed to do until I actually had enough experience to kind of step out and say, \u2018I want to do this on my own and see what it\u2019s like.\u2019<\/p>\n
\n“The more I did it, the more I loved it.”<\/p>\n
