Presley Gerber<\/strong><\/a> got candid about overcoming addiction six months before his tragic death at age 27<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Presley \u2014 the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford<\/strong><\/a> and husband Rande Gerber<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 died in a rehab facility on Sunday, September 20, Us<\/em> confirmed. A spokesperson for the Gerber family said in a statement, \u201cThe family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,\u201d it read.<\/p>\n

Just six months before his death, Presley opened up about a psychedelic treatment for his addiction, undergoing what he described as an \u201cibogaine flood dose.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Iboga Wellness Institute<\/a>, ibogaine is a naturally occurring compound \u201cderived from the root bark of the African plant Tabernanthe iboga.\u201d Therapeutic flood doses can be used to \u201ctreat opioid and other substance use disorders,\u201d the organization\u2019s website states. Ibogaine is not currently legal in the U.S.<\/p>\n

In a March 26 Instagram post<\/a>, Presley shared a video clip of him preparing to undergo ibogaine treatment and wrote, \u201cQuiet moment before everything changed. I was absolutely terrified, and I knew I would be again if I ever had to face something like this (helps to not go into the situations you do that get ya there but that\u2019s life sometimes.)\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cMy mantras were love yourself and [it\u2019s] gotta be the last time for this reason. Letting go of control didn\u2019t come easy, but I trusted there was something bigger than me guiding it. I knew why I was there. I faced what I had been running from, and somewhere in all of it, I started finding my way back to myself \ud83e\udd0d\u2026. We shall see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Presley\u2019s mom, Cindy, 60, dad Rande, 64, and sister Kaia Gerber<\/strong> were among the people to comment on his post at the time.<\/p>\n

During a 2023 appearance on the \u201cStudio 22\u201d podcast<\/a>, Presley shared his mental health challenges and how he hoped to help others struggling with their mental health.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place I was in at one point in my life, that\u2019s all I need to do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
