Before Sweet Magnolias<\/em><\/a>\u2018 shocking cancellation, showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson<\/strong> exclusively revealed what would have happened in season 6.<\/p>\n

News broke on Friday, September 18, that Netflix chose not to renew Sweet Magnolias<\/em><\/a> in favor of working again with Anderson \u2014 and star JoAnna Garcia Swisher<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 in a new series titled Ladies of the House<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be embarking on this new adventure with JoAnna and Netflix,\u201d Anderson said in a statement. \u201cWhen Jo shared the novel with me, I immediately saw the foundation for a series centered on three women grappling with the complexities of family, friendship, and romance \u2014 the kind of stories Jo and I most enjoy telling. I cannot wait to share the Richardson women and their world with Netflix\u2019s global audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on Lauren Edmonson<\/strong>\u2019s novel of the same name<\/a>, Ladies of the House<\/em> follows three women. When the charismatic owner of a winery dies unexpectedly, his wife and two adult daughters \u201cmust battle through their issues with each other in order to confront challenges with the business, their extended family, and the men in their lives,\u201d according to the official synopsis.<\/p>\n

The description continued: \u201cGood friends and good wine will aid in the journey to hang on to the winery, but what matters most is that they find a way to hang on to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Ladies of the House<\/em> reunite Anderson and Swisher, many viewers were still left upset about the conclusion to Sweet Magnolias. Most of the characters and their individual arcs were left up in the air as Deadline reported that Netflix had a choice between renewing Sweet Magnolias for a sixth \u2014 and final \u2014 season or picking up Ladies of the House. The streaming service ultimately chose to invest in Ladies of the House.<\/p>\n

According to Anderson, the appearance of Javier was meant to shake things up for Cal (Justin Bruening<\/strong>) and Maddie (Swisher), who were finally able to enjoy newlywed life.<\/p>\n

\u201cCal going back into baseball is going to be challenging,\u201d she teased. \u201cWe\u2019ll just say that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ty and Annie\u2019s Unconfirmed Reunion<\/h2>\n

Anneliese Judge<\/strong> was just as curious about whether Annie and Ty (Carson Rowland<\/strong>) would find their way back to each other after Rowland\u2019s exit from the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s a really interesting story line that\u2019s threaded through the whole [season]. Even though we don\u2019t see [Ty], it\u2019s still very much present in Annie\u2019s life,\u201d she shared with Us. \u201cSo I don\u2019t know what will happen. I could see [it] going either way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anderson, meanwhile, hinted that the door is \u201copen\u201d and she is curious to see \u201cwho walks through that door.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anderson weighed in on Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott<\/strong>) connecting with Clarke (John Gabriel Rodriquez<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s sort of this insidiously disruptive energy,\u201d she quipped. \u201cWhen we filmed our first scene with Clark, Dion and Justin [who play Eric and Cal] both came over to me and were like, \u2018Poor Ronnie.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

After their wedding, Helen (Heather Headley<\/strong>) and Erik (Dion Johnstone<\/strong>) will likely foster kids in the future. Anderson also teased to Us<\/em> \u201cunexpected challenges and the joys of opening those doors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Similar to everyone else in Serenity, Noreen (Jamie Lynn Spears<\/strong>) and Jeremy (Chase Anderson<\/strong>) were expected to commit even more to their relationship with an engagement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love them together, because there\u2019s a sweetness and a gentleness to the two of them together that stands out more than the dynamics of the other couples,\u201d Anderson shared. \u201cAnd I certainly think that there is a way for them to keep deepening their relationship and find new levels of happiness.
